My husband is bipolar, and he is on a combination of medications!. These have to be adjusted from time to time, and it takes a real specialist to "tweak" them to get the right balance!. At any given time, he takes about five at once, in some combination or other, including often something for anxiety!.

If you are near a big city, it will be easier for you to find someone who really specializes in the meds, but you might ask your doctor if this is something for you two to look into!. I would refer you to some literature if I only knew!.

Another source is people in NAMI, where at least you can share ideas with others, and maybe even referrals to doctors!. I don't like the idea of you trying to go it alone without any help from meds!.

(We are in Los Angeles, and I could provide a referral in our area if it would help!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

My hubby is bipolar as well!. I agree with the previous post - ask your doctor (or find another) that will help you find the right combination of meds!.

The first thing will probally be a mood stablizer - while lithium is usually the first choice, it is not the only one!. Many anti-convulsives (epilepsy drugs) help stablize mood!. Seroquel has also been shown to help with mood stabilization as well as mania!.

The thing is that it can take time to find the right "cocktail" of meds that is right for you!. My hubby has been in the hospital a few times because his needs change!. I know it must really be hard on you!

If you can't seem to find help, I would try contacting NAMI or another group (as the previous post said)!. Hang in there, you will find something that is right for you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I struggle getting the right medication or dose for my bipolar too!. Some times I need a low or higher dose of the medication I'm on!. Some times I need to change it because it's not working!. I think that we just need to be patient!. I know it's hard because you get a manic or depressive episode and it's hard!. Some times I get really angry at the doctor because she can't find the right medication for me!. The best thing for me right now is talking to people that have bipolar because they are the only ones that know want it is like!. It helps me to feel like i'm not alone!. Email me if you want to talk or have any questions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If medications do not work you should try looking for a psychiatrist or support group that you can talk about the problems that you have been experiencing, so that you're able to get the help that you need in order to help yourself!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ask your doctor about Rermeron, Clozapine or Lexapro!. Hopefully one of these will work for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Are you a gemini!?
You might want to try out meditation!.
I've tried it and it works for me!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my suggestion!.!.!.!.check yourself into the psychiatric unit of your nearby hospital!.!.!.!.!.the doctors there will meet with you, talk with you, & correctly diagnose you!. if you are bi-polar, they will be able to give you the correct combination of medications so that you will be able to live a somewhat normal life!.

i highly recommend this option!. i know that it may be hard (mentally/emotionally) to think of yourself checking yourself into a "loony bin", but guess what!? if you had a broken leg, wouldn't you go to the ER for a cast!? Mental health is just as, if not MORE important than physical health & it should not be looked down upon!. You are trying to do the best thing for yourself, your friends & your family by doing this!. it doesn't mean you have to be in the hospital for 3 years!.!.!.!.maybe just 1 week!. you'll be put on medication that works, and you will be happy & balanced!.

just make sure you have health insurance before you do so, because it can be very expensive without it!

good luck :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
