Question: Anyone ever called a crisis hotline!?
I am a new volunteer on a sexual assault crisis hotline and I am just wondering: Has anyone ever called for help, did it help you at all, and if so, what is the best thing that the person did to help you!?

Your doing a GREAT Thing helping others!. I have not used one, but I did work on two when I was in college: The Women's Self Help/Rape Crisis Line and then again on Behavioral Health Hotline!. I feels certain for a lot of these people it was the first time they felt safe en ought to tell the whole story, then to be able to give them follow up help was wonderful-don't mean to sound sappy, but it was true!. Sometimes they have held this pain in since childhood and you are the first one they tell!. They feel safe because they know they're just a voice and you would never be able to pick them out of a crowd!. Listening listening and never tell them it's not okay and expected to cry!. Tell them you can understand them through the tears!. You can always have them repeat specifics later IF necessary!. I watched a guy work for the suicide hot-line!. He had to work in a dark basement answering the phone listning to despondent people all day!. I can imagine he gets a call and he answers saying "Suicide hotline where are you and his coworker says right behind you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
my friend called a sexual assult crisis one and i was with her and the most comforting that person said was "that it wasnt her fault and that theres nothing wrong with her because this happened!." hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com
I've never called, but my best friend worked at one for a long time, and she said all people ever really needed was someone to just listen!. Not give advice, but just to listen and be supportive!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
