Hi, Rachel!
You are truly going through a lot and I do feel for you! But hopefully, you will listen to what I have to say with an open mind!
Let's take it one thing at a time, okay!?
1) Feelings of depression can come on for quite a number of reasons! One possibility may be that you are going though a lot of different changes during adolescence!. This is a time that can be very confusing because you're dealing with adjustments both emotionally and socially!. Physically, you are changing as well and this can cause hormonal imbalances which can affect your feelings!.
2) You are trying to lose weight!. That can be stressful too and if you have low self-esteem, this can cause depression!. Are you eating right!? Not getting proper nutrition can wreak havoc on your body and even your mind! You need sufficient vitamins and minerals to support your whole being!. Don't think that it is okay to cram vitamin pills while starving yourself!. That is NOT good nutrition and most of the vitamins are lost in the urine if you try to do that anyway!.
3) Are you getting plenty of fresh air and sunshine!? You really do need these! And getting a reasonable amount of exercise is very helpful as well!. This does not mean exercising till you drop!. Just getting out and taking brisk walks is great!
4) It is normal to be concerned over things like money problems, sickness, and other family matters!. The key is to realize that stressing over them too much is not going to change anything!. Do the best you can and everything else will have to take care of itself!. At 15, it is not your job to be worring over money!. That is the adults' responsibility! However, if you want to, you can try to think of ways to help out!. For example, maybe you could babysit and earn some money of your own!. Can you think of ways to help your family spend less money!? There's all kinds of thrifty hints to be found online! Actually, it can be fun to see how much money you can save by being creative!
5) Sometimes, no matter how wonderful a person's life might be, she can still get depressed!. This is because of brain chemistry that a person has no personal control over!. In cases like these, medications may be the best option!.
6) Are you by any chance on any medications!? Some meds can cause depression! I was once on a drug for high blood pressure and it made me so depressed that I could barely stand it! I went to my doctor and he told him how I was feeling and he took me off of it!. I started feeliong better almost immediately!.
7) You asked if anyone thought you need to talk to a therapist!. Personally, I think that would be a good thing for you to do!. If you have a good-enough relationship with your mom, you should approach her with how you are feeling!. Wait until a time when she is not too busy or in a bad mood!. Be calm and non-accusatory!.
Also, if you have a guidance counselor at your school, certainly make an appointment to talk with him/her!. They probably know of resources that can help you cope!. Believe me, they deal with young ones like yourself often and want to help!
I hope you get to feeling better very soon!. Please take care and feel free to email me if you wish!.
Remember, you do have options, so never give up!Www@Answer-Health@Com
