Can OCD come in phases? OCD Questions?!

Question: Can OCD come in phases!? OCD Questions!?
I'm pretty sure I have a mild case of OCD!. When I was younger (10) I used to get these thoughts that if something like a t-shirt was not in a certain place that something bad would happen!. I would also sit in class and worry that my parents would get in a car accident and I would come home and find out!. It sometimes made me feel so bad that I could not concentrate on the lesson!. the odd part about it is for about 4 years I did not have any strong symptoms of OCD then here I am again with some more symptoms!. The problem is this time, being more exposed to the horrors of the world, I now am getting horrific thoughts that "pop" into my mind and scare me to death sometimes!. I also worry immensly that I would ever act on these thoughts and that one day I would wake up and like these thoughts or find them funny!. This drives me insane! Take note that I don't often get compulsions to do stuff or something bad will happen but it is more of the scary thoughts!. I can also control my compulsions and soon forget them!. My question is do I have minor OCD and can OCD come in phases with minor symptoms in between because I want to know if I should go get some medication or wait it out for the phase to pass!. I also heard that OCD gets worse if it is untreated!. Is this true!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
OCD symptoms tend to go up and down, with some seemingly good periods (though not completely symptom-free), and some horrible periods!. Since you described your problems and stated that you don't seem to perform compulsions, it sounds more like you are suffering from something that is referred to as "pure O", which just takes the compulsion out of OCD!. Obsessions are, in my opinion, much worse than the compulsions!. OCD definitely does get much, much worse if you just leave it be!. It moves in and takes over!. Go see your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Intrusive thoughts that can be somewhat transient as you are describing are not characteristic of OCD!. One would expect to see some relatively significant compulsions before a diagnosis of OCD is made!. Regardless of the label that is put on them, if these things bother you that much you should go and see someone about it!. It may be a simply phase of anxiety that you are experiencing!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

My OCD was very little when I was young, and then it slowly started to increase as I got older!. So, I guess that it does come in stages!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

hey there, this definately shows traits of OCD!. OCD does get worse if left untreated (personal experience) however, until it is at the point of controlling your life or being present for more than 3/4 hours a day it will most likely not be diagnosed as OCD!. if you find this unbearable and the anxiety too much to live with, do get help!. everyone has some OCD traits, but it only becomes a mental health problem when it controlls you; i have had it since i was a child and am now recieving treatment!. good luck xxWww@Answer-Health@Com
