ASPECT (Autistic Spectrum Australia)

They have many services, education and programs for children, teenagers and adults!. They could possibly be the best to answer your questions about diagnosis and/or testing, if not I'm sure they would have other references!.

They are very helpful and informative!. I deal with them quite often, my son goes to an "Aspect School" for autistic children and I have been involved with a parent support group they run called "Someone to turn to!."

At this stage there is no cure for autism, but autism is TREATABLE!.
Keep asking and researching!. With more of an understanding about autism and how it affects a person, is the first powerful step towards treating it effectively!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, my brother has severe autism, and I know a lot of children and older teens with autism in mild and severe cases!. I don't know about where to go in Australia, a doctor perhaps (sorry if that's a bit obvious)!?

I would recommend http://www!.autism!.com/index!.asp , it helped me to understand my brother!. There are also a few good books around, just search amazon!.

I don't think Autism can be completely cured, but can certainly be treated!. Depending on the severity, it can be possible to live a perfectly normal life, and people won't know you have Autism unless you tell them!. My brother has medication to calm his anxiousness, it worked wonders!. He was diagnosed as a young child when he lost the ability to form sentences and words, we took him to see a normal doctor!. I was only young then so I don't remember everything but maybe the doctor will be able to refer you to someone else!.

Try and find helplines and websites based in Australia!. Good luck! <3Www@Answer-Health@Com

Autism is not curable!. Some adults are being diagnosed in adulthood that is true and around your age it is possible!.
You need to go to a psychiatrist or barring that a psychologist and one who has an expertise in autism!.
Probably what you would have, if anything at all, would be the high functioning type of autism called Aspergers Syndrome!.
