I've been to a mental hospital 2 times within 3 weeks!. Ive attempted suicide 3 times so far!.

It's not too bad in a mental hospital!. They keep you there with other teens, (unless your 18+ then your with the adults)!.

The first time I was in the hospital for 8 days, and then the second time I was in for 3 days because my Mom was smart and created an after-care treatment plan for me so I didn't have to stay 6-8 days again!.

Basically no matter what you condition is, they wont release you until your assigned Psychiatrist thinks your mentally stable and your coping skills are good enough!.

The helping people part is up to you! It's your job to cooperate to the treatment therapy they give you!. And yes, it does help quite a bit!.

Take that from a very mature, 17 year old!. I constantly cry almost every night, I cut my arm, and I've had 3 suicide attempts!.

Now I'm becoming healthy! It takes small steps, and a LOT of time!.

I've suffered major depression and anxiety almost my whole life!.

Keep your head held high, and DON'T lie! If you lie, they will think your trying to impress them and they won't let you go for even longer!.

Just play it smart and try to relax and enjoy yourself!.

Most of the time the kids are great to talk to!.

Actually, this girl that was there the first time in the hospital, she was STILL there when I came back, and she was there for a total of 5 weeks!. Guess what!? She lives at my house now :]

My Mom and I have been helping her, thanks to everything!.

Just put a lot of effort into it!Www@Answer-Health@Com

There are more people in mental institutions with schizophrenia than depression!. It depends how severe your case is, on how long it will take and how long you will stay there (if you are sent to one)!. You usually have to go in front of a tribunal, who decide whether you are fit to stay in the community, and whether you enter the institution voluntarily or involuntarily!. If you are going into the institution voluntarily, then yes you will be put on a waiting list if there isn't enough beds!. Involuntary, there are usually beds kept open for these people, so there is no red tape, but they are usually a danger to themselves and/or society!. If the tribunal decides you need to go to an institution, since you are already self harming and thinking about suicide, you will probably be put in a closed ward!. Closed ward= not much freedom, 24/7 supervision, and things we take for granted like using a knife at meals times are usually forbidden!. Whether or not they help people is debatable!. For some people it becomes their home because there are people with similar illnesses, others feel like they are in a prison!. It can be really scary for the patient!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

first off please be totally honest with the doctors tomorrow, the idea of having to go to a mental hospital is scary but they are helpful!. I don't know what the policy for most hospitals are but in arizona they can keep you in for up to ten days!.
They talk to you and determine which medications you should be on and provide activites and classes and counseling while you are there!.
They will also help you set up counseling for when you get out!.
It is like a safe place to take a time out so you can concentrate on only you during that time with out having to deal with most of the stresses the "outside" world has!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
