My son has been tentatively diagnosed with early onset bipolar disorder!. He is 10 years old!. He was previously diagnosed (at great expense) with ADHD!. Hints, tips, advise!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

There is a great website for early onset bipolar!.!.!.I was answering a question last night when someone asked about toddlers on Abilify!.
It is at:
http://www!.bpkids!.org/site/PageServer!?pa!.!.!.
There seems to be a chat section there as well as other references!. There are also internet support groups for parents!.

To Mickjam!.!.!.the DSM does not state the age that Bipolar can start -- and in fact Pediatric Bipolar does exist and the DSM V is due out in 2011 with many changes!. It is a good chance the DSM will include it!. Also, the DSM is only the US book, the rest of the world uses other references -- don't be so ethnocentric!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know about childhood onset bipolar disorder!. That doesn't exist!. I think somebody has got you by the tail!. I would ask for a reference to bipolar disorder in the DSM (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mentaol Disorders)!. All possible mental diagnoses exist in that volume!. If they can show you the diagnosis in the book, it's legitimate and you can learn more about the etiology and prognosis of the disorder!. If they don't know, say they don't have the book, or that it hasn't been published yet, they are lying to you!.

Take him to another psych doc that isn't trying to pull the wool over your eyes and rob you blind of everything you have!. The best thing you can do for this child is love him!. That doesn't mean spoil him, that doesn't mean punish him!. To the extent possible, be involved in his life!. He should never doubt for a second that his parents love him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
