Thoughts on medication to treat depression?!

Question: Thoughts on medication to treat depression!?
I am trying to battle what I believe is depression without the use of medication!. Lately, I cannot seem to function!. I have no interest in my children or what is going on in the world around me, I just want to curl up in a ball and cry all the time!. (I do take care of my family and they are in no way in danger of me!.)
I have looked into medications, but all the side affects terrify me and the fact that they can increase thoughts of suicide and can become addictive has kept me away!.
If anyone is on medication and can give me a little info on your experiences and what medication you take I would really appreciate it!.
Thanks!Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all I would like to tell you that I am a nurse, so base this decision on medical knowledge, as well as my own experiences with depression and post traumatic stress from my time in the army!.

Medication works, but it is and should be a last resort only!. Like you said sometimes the side effects outweigh any positive effects!.

What I did to overcome it was training, excercise!. I put all my negative thoughts and emotions into one aggressive burst of energy and use it to completely tire myself out physically!. Run, swim, go hell for leather on a punchbag or the weights, train in a physical activity such as a martial art (like I do) or a sport!? This will make your body stronger and healthier, which in turn will help your depression!.

Then look at changing the aspects of your life you are not satisfied with!. Travel more, do a degree, change your job/situation/home life, whatever it may be!. Set yourself small goals at first along with larger long term ones to aim for and go for it!.

You will probably never get rid of the demons that plague you, I still haven't, but believe me when I say you CAN beat them into submission!

Good luck, and hope this helps!.

I am currently taking Celexa for my depression, and i have been for over a year!. It works great and is almost an immediate relief after your first week of consecutive dosage!. The only bad side effect that i have experienced is weight gain!. I am extremely conscious about things like that, but the change in my life that it has made is definetly worth it!. My outlook on things had gotten so bad that i didnt even really realize it or care!. Once i began taking medication i realized how i had changed for the worse and i wish i wouldve begun taking medication sooner!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have been on two or three different kinds of medication for depression in my lifetime and I have never had any side effects or addiction!. They have been a wonderful support to me!. I certainly never had any suicidal thoughts!. I don't remember the names, except for Prozac!. I would take them again if I needed to!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was very badly damaged in an accident that I had when I was 18!. It took me over a decade to recover! The depression that I suffered was bad in the extreme!. I finally defeated the menace with aromatherapy; the bad feelings just drifted away!. Go see an aromatherapist, you really have nothing to lose!. If it doesn't work, I'll pay for your treatment myself!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Try not to take medication, a lot of this can make you feel tired & drained & then you start relying on it !.!. a lot of the time it just makes you worse!.

If you have a close friend, have a chat to them about it!. Maybe you can plan a day out or something !.!.!. Even a good movie can lift your spirits !

Try & get around it!. Good luck !Www@Answer-Health@Com
