Hi there,

Yesterday I had a pretty bad day I got so down and was so upset and hurt I was on a high and then a low and I got down to the point I sliced my arms with a box cutter and a peg and it hurt really bad and I have massive marks and cuts on my arms I have to wear a jumper to cover it up and its so hot what else can I do to cover my arms up!?

You've got to be honest with your social worker and psychiatrist!. If something isn't working, tell them!. Although I know from experience that BPD can't be cured with meds or anything like that!. I hope that your therapy will help you overcome this!.

What you could do instead of cutting is drawing on your arm with a red marker, if you want to you can use black and add "stitches"!. I find if I concentrate on marking my arm up with marker I get the same stress relief that I do from cutting!. Be careful of using a rubber band as that could easily become a form of self-injury!.

please don't cut yourself, yes i agree flicking yourself with a rubber band will be much better, i agree with what you say cutting yourself is not worth it!. The next time you get the urge to cut yourself keep thinking in your head this is not worth it, it is going to really hurt and i'm going to have scars, keep a rubber band with you, Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

The rubber band idea is not bad!. It is better than a box cutter!. You may also wish to try a sport which will give you physical release such as soccer, basketball or tennis!. You will concentrate more on athletic performance than self-inflicted wounds!. try just about any activity that will take your mind off yourself!. Participate in a team sport!. Best wishes!.

Yeah, I agree with your social worker!. Please do something less harmful to your body!. Find another outlet for your pain other than cutting!. Snapping rubber bands at yourself might do the trick!.
The only alternative to wearing a jumper is to get some makeup (some foundation) and try to hide the scars!. However, it might not work well!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

People can't handle pressure, pain, hard work,life, or anything anymore!.
Everyone wants an easy way out, whether it's drugs, alcohol, cutting, or what ever!.!.!.!.!.

Cutting is usually a method of causing pain to cover up the mental pain you feel!. The Rubber band trick can help but you really have to find the underlying cause of your pain for many its repressed memories of abuse as children!. you probably need a Therapist as well as a social worker!. well i think that hurting urself with a rubber band is better than cutting urself cuz the reason most ppl cut themselves is so that the physical pain could take their minds off their emotional pain so its better to just hurt urself slightly than to cut urself!. about covering up ur scar maybe u could just wear long sleaved shirts instead of jumpers or u could wear gloves like these:

wear an arm band or watch to cover the marks!. also you have to distract yourself inorder to stop the pain!. start a sport or hobby, anything to distract yourself!. look at the happiest people in the world, its because they do something which they love doing and are occupied by it!. Don't cut your self that is horrible try when you are sad play out side ride a bike play with your dog or cat DON'T SMOKE or CUT YOUR self try talking to your friend cook your self dinner clean take a shower that is what i would do!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have heard of using a rubber band to help with negative thoughts!. It certainly couldn't hurt to try it!. I really think you need to get in to see your psychiatrist to reviews your meds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

A friend of mine did that for years and her arms are all ugly and marked up!. Yes try the rubber band or better yet, my friend got a punching bag and that helped her a lot!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Put a band aid on it, I dunno!. When I got this huge cut once up my arm and there was blood spilling out, I put a rag on it and it hurt like hell, but that was like 40 years ago in VietnamWww@Answer-Health@Com

i am so sorry!.!.!.i know how depression & anxiety & stuff is have had it since age 12!.!.i'm 29 now, you could try the rubber band!.!.i know i have heard once you are a cutter it really is hard to stop!.!.!.u may to need to get checked in to the hospital awhile!.!.i am glad to hear you are getting help, all i know for you to do is to wear a long sleeve shirt to cover it up!.!.i really wish i knew the answers!.!.hang in thereWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am new here but saw your post and thought I might could give some personal experience information!. I have had the same problem!. I would get mad and sad and frustrated and (haven't in a few months) cut myself or hit myself on the head or body or pull my hair out!. I tried the ice trick, my counselor told me about when I could think of it!. I find it very hard to think rationally in that state!. I had really good luck with it!. I would take an ice cube in both hands and squeeze them as tight as I could for as long as I could!. Most of the time it would be until they were completely melted!. It stings like cutting does but no lasting side effects!. I would definitely talk to your therapist about it though!. I hope this helps you and I hope you feel better!.

The most important thing you can do if you are serious about stopping is to go be with another person!. You won't cut unless you are alone!.

Talk to some friends and your husband and make arrangements ahead of time that when you need help you will go over or they will come to you!. Then you just have to promise yourself you will really do it, and keep your promise!. If you feel the urge coming on, call your friend!. If you can't get in touch with anyone and have to be alone, go to the store or a public place!.

Three things about cutting: first, you can't do it while you are doing something else, so do something else!. The rubber band is enough for some people, but if it doesn't work, try something bigger!. For example, you can't cut if you are jogging, so go jogging when you feel the urge start up!.

The second thing is that cutting is addictive because it releases chemicals in your body, so every time you give in, you are making the urge stronger next time, and every time you don't give in, you are making the urge weaker next time!.

Third, cutting happens for a reason!.!.!. you are trying to take away your pain!. So to win this fight you need another way to take away your pain!. Work on solving the problems that upset you, and the ones you can't solve, try drawing a picture of what the pain looks like!. It sounds like they may already have you doing this, it does help!. And again, you can't do two things at once, so if you are drawing, you can't be cutting at the same time!.

Oh, one more thing!.!.!. get rid of the box cutter, and anything else that tempts you and makes it easy!. Plan ahead of time not to cut, instead of secretly planning to give in and cut!. You are the one in charge here!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Discuss it more with your social worker and your psychiatrist!. What i felt very relieving when i was down was to put my face over the pillow and scream and scream and scream until i did not have any energy!. or else just get a bottle of water and go running or walking somewhere near the house - i am lucky cos there are a lot of green near my house, i start walking very fast and thinking very hard but by the time i get home i find myself that i relaxed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

In my opinion i agree with your doctor but just please don't cut yourself, my friend did that and when cutting himself wasn't enough he swore at teachers and hated everyone even his close friends!.

If flicking yourself isnt enough than just hit something that wont affect others like hitting your pillow or smacking your bed or if you need to do something to yourself than just hold your breath to your extent i do that when i get misjudged and injustified!. Good luck! ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well!.!.!. Flicking yourself with a rubber band is definitely a much better way out than cutting!.

However, Borderline Disorder is not fun and you surely already know that!. It's good you told your social worker what you did and what you probably still do from time to time!.

If the medications you are taking now aren't working for you too good to suppress the symptoms and your harmful actions directed to yourself, you should inform your psychiatrist about this, as soon as possible!.

Perhaps he could change your current medications for some different ones that could work better for youWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have cut myself many times before and i can tell you if you can control yourself (I know it's hard) it can make it easier on you!.

You should try the rubber band thing!. it's worth a try!.
but I don't think that your social worker should be encouraging that stuff!. it's still self harm even though it's not as bad and can't cause infections and stuff!. have you tried anti-depressants!? they could be the solution for you!. tell your phsychiatrist about this stuff and tell him exactly how you feel!. i know it's hard but if it makes you happy then it would be worth it!.
