Taking things way too personally?!

Question: Taking things way too personally!?
Today my counselor said I was dramatizing things, because I guess I was upset at small things, the type of stuff most people can handle on a day to day basis!. But I wasnt trying to cause trouble, its just how I felt!. This made me feel terrible!. Like my problems arent important or whatever!. And this is not the first time I have heard this, my mom would always say to me stop being so overly dramatic!. Even when my best friend tried to rape me and I got the strength to tell my mom, thats what she said!. Im so used to hearing it now, but I still hate it!. I dont want to be mad at my counselor for saying that, but Ill feel like an idiot bringing it up, and as hard as Ive tried to get over it, I cant, and its annoying!. I dont hold grudges but I cant move on either!. Please help!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm hthe same way!. It SUCKS when people don't take your feelings seriously!. :( I don't know what to tell you besides to confront your counselor about what s/he said!. At least maybe they can explain what they meant!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not to side with anyone here, but the fact that you made a huge post about this says you take things a little weensy bit far!. If this counselor is a school person or guidance type, I would dismiss it but if this is a therapist then I would suggest you find a new one!. No good therapist/mental health counselor would dismiss your feelings with no empathy or validity!.
I know it sucks to hear people say the same thing to you over & over but sometimes it may be worth it to suck it up & choose your battles!. Your peers will treat your feelings with more respect when EVERYTHING is not a big, emotional deal!. Best of luck!
PS- & you should seek help for the attempted rape, that's never ok!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
