Now that I'm sober, my emotions are hard to deal with. How do I cope?!

Question: Now that I'm sober, my emotions are hard to deal with!. How do I cope!?
Answers:
I so relate to this!. I agree with Nurse, AA has really been my bedrock and saved my life!. It's scary having all the feelings all the time, and not being able to "drown them" the way I used to!. Being sober, we have to deal with them!. Having AA gives me a sponser and others in my network to talk about these things with!. And that's what you'll hear at meetings - how people are dealing with life on life's terms without blocking it all out!. You'll find you're not alone and there is so much help and support in those rooms!.

Congrats on getting sober - you've taken a huge step in starting the rest of your life!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'll assume you're speaking alcohol, but this all holds true for essentially any substance of abuse!.

Getting sober is tough, but staying sober is another game entirely!. Most addicts benefit from frequent participation in a support group, the 12 step programs and variations on them (X!. Anonymous) are probably the best choices!. Get with a program, most addicts early in recovery go to meetings several times a week, find a sponsor and work with him/her, work the steps!. It's all a part of learning to live and function without the use of a substance!.

Therapy can never be a bad idea, but you'll want to find a therapist who has experience in treating people with substance abuse, not just your ordinary person who treats mental illness!. Experience is a big plus here!.

Congratulations and good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It would benefit you to join Alcholics Annonymous!. I know that may sound like a cliche, but the support is impecable!. Support will be the key to maintaining sobriety!. You have to have a person/persons you can count on and talk to at any hour of the day or night!. It is important that you realize this is a disease just like diabetes!. It has to be treated, just not with drugs, but with counseling, and support!. You may need to change your circle of friends!. Get involved in other activities, volunteer, or what ever is right for you!. Just remember there will be good and bad days!. Hard and easier days to come!. Hang in there and good luck!. I will certainly keep you in my prayers!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

View section 52, on alcohol, and there are phone no!.s & support weblinks, and try Groups, on alcohol recovery, at Myspace, Google, or Yahoo!. Use benzodiazapenes, like Valium, or Xanax, only for a short term, as they can be addictive, and take a long time to wean off!.
