Concerta (methylphenidate HCL controlled release) is basically Ritalin, which is used to treat ADD/ADHD!. It is a schedule II stimulant that can be used as a last-choice, off-label option for treating depression when all other meds have failed!. It is usually well-tolerated in most people, with minimal side effects!. It is sometimes used in geriatric patients who are close to death as a way of making the final days of life better!.

It works by causing a release of dopamine and norepinephrine in the brain!. You'll definitely feel better, but it can be very addictive, so you need to watch out for signs of dependency! Only take it when you are supposed to take it, per your doctor's orders!.

I took it for a couple years and it definitely helped with concentration, but I felt like it robbed my personality from me!. I quit taking it eventually!. it is really up to you as to whether you should be taking it!. I'd say, give it a try for a few weeks, and see if you feel better!. For the first few days, it might be a little rough - you'll have a lot of energy, feel like talking a lot, and have trouble sleeping!. It will go away eventually as your body adjusts to it!. To me, it was basically the same thing as cocaine!.

If you can't tolerate the effects, there is another drug called buprenorphine that is very rarely used to treat depression!. It is actually an alternative to methadone, but with less addiction liability!. It requires a special license for doctors who wish to prescribe it, so you can't get it from just any doctor!. Also, like Concerta, you can only get a one month supply at a time!. You can google it to find out more!. I take it now, and in my opinion, it's a very safe and effective drug!. I feel completely normal, just not depressed!

I will add, though, that it is VERY hard to get off of!. It's pretty easy to stop taking Concerta!. When I stopped taking buprenorphine for a year, I was the sickest I've ever been in my life for a total of 2 months, so keep that in mind!

Also, if you can't abide the Concerta, there are other drugs in the amphetamine class, like Adderall that can be used!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was having problems concentrating and getting things done for weeks and I thought I was depressed!. I couldn't keep my mind from racing and I couldn't be still and just get something done so my doctor prescribed concerta to see how that would go!. Within a few days I could tell a huge difference!. My mind calmed down and I could finally think things through!. As soon as I calmed down and felt back on track the depressive feelings went away!.
If it doesn't work within a couple of days I would go back and ask for a different remedy!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
