Do I have some disorder?!

Question: Do I have some disorder!?
I'm not freaking out or anything, I'm just curious if there is a psychological explanation for what I do:

I'm a freshman in college, a science major, so I guess you could say I'm under a little stress!. Lately, when I'm ever just sitting around with friends or just passing time, I find that I'm essentially shredding whatever is in front of me (usually a paper cup or plate, a string, paper!.!.!.)!. I think that it must be some nervous habit, but I do it when I'm relaxed with friends too!. I've done it before, but never this compulsively!.

This isn't really related, but it's something else that's a recent development!. This past year (the spring of my high school senior year to now) I've developed a serious phobia of touching either my wrists or my inner elbow/forearm!. It includes not only my touching my arm, but other people touching them, watching people touching their own, or even thinking about it!. I sometimes have 'ghost touches' left over after someone touches my wrist or I get to freaked out and I have to hug my arms tightly to me to make it stop!.

I don't know if there is even an explanation for any of this, but I thought I'd shoot the breeze cuz I'm curious like that!.

Thanks

This definitely sounds like Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder!. What you're describing doesn't sound too severe, but it might help to see a doctor or a therapist to make sure!. Even if it is some mild form of OCD, a doctor or therapist might be able to suggest some sort of treatment -- i!.e medicine, therapy, or even some sort of excercises you can do to minimalize the obsessions and compulsions!. My professional opinion would be that the shredding thing is a non-issue!. It is not "the start of OCD" as some people have suggested!. OCD doesn't work that way!. However, the wrist/elbow issue is a little more concerning and I would (if I were your therapist) want to explore that more with you!. The reason being that things of that nature don't suddenly pop up without having some kind of link to something else behind them!. For example (not saying this is the case with you) there may have been abuse in the past that involved being bound at the wrist or elbow!. Perhaps seeing someone lose their arm in an accident!. Something!.!.!.had to kick it off, even if you can't remember a specific cause!. The cause could also have happened a long time ago and something recently triggered it!. There would be a lot of probabilities and I'm thinking it would need to be looked into!. On the other hand, you could forget all the insight therapy and just work at extinguishing the issue via CBT, but that would be a personal choice!. I prefer having the insight to understand the origin of a problem before I work on getting rid of it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
