My therapist thinks I have an eating disorder?!

Question: My therapist thinks I have an eating disorder!?
I've been seeing my therapist for like 8 months since my mom and dad thought i needed someone to talk to about their divorce (im 13)!. But usually my session are pretty cool because my therapist isnt like really old and crotchety or anything, she starts most of our sessions like "OMG did you you see the Hills last night!?!!?!" So most of the time i like going to talk to her!. A couple days ago i went for my weekly appointment and instead of her asking like the normal questions (The Hills; etc!.), she said "I'm only saying this out of pure concern, but you are too thin!." Im 5'6" and i weigh 105 lbs!. I was like 122 lbs last April or something and i dont know if i have an eating disorder but im kinda of afraid i might!. I told her that im sure i didnt and i dont think she believed me but if she really believes i do, will she tell my parents!? Should i tell my therapist i think i might!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Good morning!. I really think you need to be honest with your therapist!. She is there to help you and she can't help you through this if you don't let her!. She has the experience to help you see if you do or don't have an eating disorder!. Talk to her and tell her you DO NOT want her to talk to your parents yet until you have discussed it more!. I worked at an eating disorder facility for 5 years and its MUCH MUCH better to talk it out and work on it sooner than later!. You should be VERY proud of yourself for asking for help!. Good luck!.!.!.;)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well,at your age you start to get pretty good metabolism normally!.So if this is the case, its just your age!.But,if you arent eating 2-3 meals a day,you might wanna try to!.Normally when metabolism hits, you can get really hungry and eat like the whole house(trust me,iv been there XD)and not gain an ounce!.If your really hungry and don't eat that could be a problem, but if you eat regually and still lose weight, its just your nature taking coarseWww@Answer-Health@Com

maybe your weight loss is because of your parent's divorce maybe when you start thinking about them you don't feel that hungry and miss meals yes you should tell your therapistWww@Answer-Health@Com

I think you should tell her!.

Maybe you could discuss with her how much confidentiality you have with her beforehand!.!. i!.e!.!. can she/will she tell your parents!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

you are underweight!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Tell her to shove it! Www@Answer-Health@Com

She is the perfect person to talk to this about!. Tell her you don't really know if you have an eating disorder but you have lost weight since last April and want to work with her on it!. If you follow thru with letting her help you with it she may not need to tell your parents!. If you deny you have a problem but she thinks you do she may have to tell them anyway because you are are minor and an eating disorder can put you in danger!. It is best to work it out with her, you already like her!. Ask her what she has to tell your parents and what is private!. Get help for this now while you are young and before it becomes anything worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your therapist should have diagnostic tools to determine if you have an eating disorder!. My understanding of eating disorders is that they are primarily the result of psychological body dysmorphia, i!.e!., the person believes that he/she is too fat and takes drastic measures to lose weight!. Whether or not the person actually is overweight is inconsequential!. If you are throwing up or starving yourself b/c you believe you are overweight, you amy have an eating disorder!. If you are doing these things because you need control over something in your life, you may have an eating disorder!.
However, if the stress over your parents divorce is overwhelming you, and you don't feel like eating, you are experiencing a normal reaction to stress and depression that will pass!. because you are only 13, your therapist may be reluctant to send you to a psychiatrist for antidepressants esp!. given the stressful situation you are now under!. Be honest w/ your therapist about how you feel and examine the real reasons for your sudden and rapid weight loss!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

crazyay,

I am glad your parents thought to help you even though the divorce is their problem not yours!. It does affect children and the effects can be bad on children!.

I hope your T does not waste too much time talking idle chit chat, if they do then you need to find someone else!.

I am also glad your T noticed your change in weight, it shows their concern for you!. It is not necessarily a eating disorder to loose weight!. I lost 30 pounds during my divorce, I just did not feel like eating!.

Your T should not talk to your parents about this unless you give your OK!. The T should have tests that can be performed to determine if there is an eating disorder involved in your situation!. Ask the T to give you the tests if you think this could be the reason for your weight loss!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
