What is the best way to handle depression?!

Question: What is the best way to handle depression!?
I've had bipolar manic depression for a while now (about 2 years)!. I want to talk about it to someone but the people I know don't seem to understand and it frustrates me!. It's getting to the point where it's affecting everything I do!. I keep thinking about bad things and I can tell its just getting worse!. If I were to go to therapy or something like that I'm not sure how much of an effect it would have on me, I don't know if I would feel comfortable talking to someone I don't know about it!. The last thing I want to do is be on medication!. Any suggestions!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
read my post on "My dad is detoxing from marijuana!?"

It might help there!. I kinda directed it towards everyone!.

Take charge of your life and realize that your in a position!. Is there someone causing this!? That is toxic to you!? Ask yourself questions!.

I used to be the same!. I saw over 4 psychologists!. I finally found the right person to talk too!. I don't need to talk to her anymore!. I would cry in her arms as if she were my own mother!. I'm older now and strong enough to realize life is cruel and pure at the same time!. I guess I'm just going through post teenage angst!.

Find the help you need!.

I was on medication and I wish I never went on that crap!. One doctor I absolutely disfavored loaded me with lithium carbonate, risperdal, prozac and other stuff I can't remember!. But that lithium, my body rejected it because I have no problem!. It was my mother who needed and should be on that stuff!.

Talking helps

Exercise and conditioning helps!. Jog 45 minutes every other day!. Make it seem fun too!. Find the right hour to jog!.

Talking helps the most!.

Answering questions on yahoo answers helps too, I guess!. It's become a habit of mine for a little while now!.

But one thing to look at is:

do I have an actual illness!? Is there a history in my family to back up this statement!? (for medication)

or

are there people around me causing the problem!? (no medication needed, just life experiences)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know how you know for certain you have manic depression!. You didn't say, but if you do have it, according to my sister who has it, taking lithium changed her life!. You shouldn't be afraid of it, because if you really are bipolar, lithium can be dramatically helpful!. Talk to your doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I was suffering from a really bad case of depression a few years ago!. I was Self-Injuring (is that a word o_0) and my school+parents sent me to a counsellor for therapy!. I thought the guy was an ****!. After I started to just not care anymore, one of my friends kept close to me and she helped me through it!. We've now been going out for a couple of years and I never forgot her help!. So all I can say is always keep your friends close, cos they'll cheer you up when you're down and steal your cookies when you're up ;D

EDIT: Oh, and a bucket of ice cream helps :PWww@Answer-Health@Com

dude you must treat it, and now being 2 years after you got it it will be so very hard to make it go away without medication, if you work out the body releases endorphins so it kinda helps sometimes but it will get worse and worse if you dont treat it, ive had untreated depression for a while and it gets worse and worse everytime!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you need to talk to your doctor, who will probably suggest seing a therapist, who may very well put you on meds!. true depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain- it's not your fault and there are meds that will help you feel better!. Don't be scared- trust your Doctors!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know why so many people have a strong aversion to medication if they have never tried it!. There is a reason why many other people use it - because it helps!. It's not the whole answer by any means, but it definitely helps in many cases!.

That said, you haven't tried talking to a therapist either, and appear to have a negative attitude to that too!. You are "not sure how much of an effect it would have on me" - of course not, because you haven't been there yet!.

As you say, your depression is getting worse, clearly you need help!. In my long experience of chronic depression [I'm 52], it doesn't get better on its own!. Why not give therapy a try, or at least confide in your doctor!. Yes, it's uncomfortable talking about such things with a stranger, but talking to the people you know hasn't got you anywhere!.

Time to reach out, my dear!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
