What to do about my mentally ill daughter ?!
Question: What to do about my mentally ill daughter !?
My daughter has schizophrenia and has been in and out of Dr's offices and in the hospital!. She also cuts her body with razors and whatever she finds!. She has been getting worse even tho she is taking her meds!. She tells me she will never go back into the mental hospital again no matter how bad she gets!. I don't want to put her there because she is scared to death the other people there will kill her but she needs to stop cutting herself what should and can I do!?

The best person to get advice from is a trained psychologist, and I'm sure your daughter is already seeing one!. If the one you are currently seeing is not doing much to help you should get a second opinion!.

Research the medication your daughter is on and see how long it takes it to start working!.
Also, if possible see about support group or cognitive therapy regarding her urges to cut herself!.
If she has the will to swear never to return to the hospital, she should make a similar pact not to cut her self!.

talk to the closest community mental health center and see if daytreatment is available for your daughter!. Then sit your daughter down and explain to her that the way to stay out of a hospital is to tell as early as possible when meds are not workning because at that time all thats needed is a med adjustment!. If she waits hospitalization might be neccessary!. Good Luck!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
