Question: Do you think that people should use medications to treat mental disorders!?
Answers:
i had a horrible experience with concerta(extended release ritalin to treat add/adhd) that kinda messed me up alot!.since i stared takin at a young age, i never really socially developed well!. I stopped takin it for 2 years!.Last saturday, i started taking it again, i got rlly happy and focused the first day, but the next was like a trip through hell, i was twitchy(my legs wouldnt stop shaking, stiff, angry, confused, paranoid, scared of everything around me ,hallucinating(rare side affect of add/adhd drugs)!.I was on the lowest dose available, a dose givin to 70 pound first graders, and im 130 pounds!.That was 2 days ago, and im almost back to normal!.I would rather have something "wrong with me mentally than ever be some inhuman medicated drone!.In the end its the affected persons choice, not their parents, and i feel that many parents fail to realize what medicating their children may do to them!.

and kathryn R, have u ever been medicated for a mental disorder, dont go around talking about something that u may know nothing about, and by the way, add/adhd meds have only been proven safe and effective in short term studies, and in combination with the fact that adhd is a complex and varying disorder, medicine is a hit or missWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!! if that's what it takes to make someone stable and able to deal with the rest of the world!. Why are people questioning this!?!? If someone had cancer would you tell them not to participate in chemo if that's what it took to get them well!?!?!? There's a reason that the most affective treatment for depression and other psychological illness is a combination of talk therapy and medication!. Because it works! We need to stop denying the effectiveness of medication in treating mental health!. This is the 21 century not the 19 and we know a lot more about the way that the brain works than we did than!. We need to use what we have to make life as comfortable as possible for people who suffer from mental illness!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I know I -needed- medication!. I can't manage without it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think it should be up to the patient!. What's right for one, isn't for the other!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well yes and no depending on the disorder and how bad it is and if it does good Www@Answer-Health@Com
