Hi there
I must say that you're fear of water is totally understandable!. Please don't feel that it is strange or 'odd' and there is no need to feel ashamed!.

Many people have had a similar experience to you!. Either friends or relatives pushing them into water as a big joke whereas in reality, it can be terrifying!.

The phobia you have developed is obviously one that you want to get over - to conquer!. It will allow you to socialize more with your friends and family and enjoy something that can be a lot of fun!.

Talking about it MIGHT help you but really, this is a fear that you will have to 'behave' your way out of rather than 'talk' yourself out of!. You're going to have to actually get TO water and get IN!.

Sounds like your friends know that you can't swim but, if you would rather they didn't know about your fear, is there a pool in a town or city just out of your local area!? Give them a phone-call and book yourself a short course of private, 'Beginner' swimming lessons!. It may cost you a little more but having one-on-one coaching will really benefit you!. Be totally honest with your coach about your fear and they are certain to take things at a pace to suit YOU!

Once you have built up your confidence, find out when the quiet times are at the pool or, when they just have 'lane' swimming!. This is great as you won't have people and children splashing/jumping/leaping around!. You can go along by yourself, continuing to build confidence and feel safe!.

Please remember that you may never feel TOTALLY comfortable (this is totally normal) so perhaps a career in deep-sea diving will not be for you LOL!

Concentrate on the positives, the activities you will be happy to be included in, trips to the pool, messing around at the beach with friends and family!.

MOST OF ALL!.!.!.From the moment you pick up the phone to book that first lesson to a time when you can happily splash around at the beach - FEEL PROUD!
You can do it!!

Will you come back and let us all know how you get on!.!.!. please!?

Good Luck

I had that same exact fear!. All it took for me was facing my fear though!. I learned how to swim before I could walk so that wasn't really an issue!. If you go to the Y and get swim lessons there you can get one on one attention which may help you and they don't make you put your head under right away so you can slowly adjust to the idea of water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

At first I thought you have hydrophobia - a rabbies disease!. Now it is clear you have psychological fear arising from your father's action!. He should have continued till you got used to it!.

To solve this problem, start going to the pool!. First walk in and stand on shallow areas and bath!. Gradually sit in with head out, and eventually dip your head!. You will overcome the fear!. You can do all these in a day!. Cheers!Www@Answer-Health@Com

you know water is necessary in our life!.without water we can't live!.
so love water !.!.!.he also love u !. Don't fear to him!. Belive he was not truble to u!. It not too difficult to float on the water u can do!. It atomitic you can do when arrive in the water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You obviously had a traumatic experience!. You can try to conquer your fear by going to the beach/pool alone and going at your own pace into the water!. Counseling may also be helpful for you to put those fears behind you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best thing to do is just face your fear!. Or just keep going over the experience of being in a swimming pool in your head until you're comfortable with it!. Then go to the beach or pool and try your hardest to get in the water!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it must feel kinda weird to think that swimming is supposed to be fun :)

i guess i was scared when i first started (although i was like 4)

but u just hav to follow through and try!. u don't necessarily have to love it, just as long as people don't think ur weird or anything :0

face it head on!.
work your way to the deep end of the pool!.!.
when you stick your head underwater wear goggles!.
( makes it eaiser, now you can see underwater, and not have your eyes closed!.)

You could try facing your fear a little each day by stepping into some water and gradually building it up with more water!. I wouldn't suggest freezing cold water as that would shock your system and probably make it worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hydrophobia is a symptom of rabies!. You should see a doctor and get checked out!.

you need to face your fears as soon as you can or they'll only get worse!. i had a tremendous fear of heights caused by an accident when i was 8yrs old!. i fell 20 feet off a fence, face first into a tarmac road and a 2inch spike in the road went through my chin,i died in the back of the ambulance and i was gone for almost 4mins!.for about 6yrs after that i couldnt even look out my bedroom window without shaking with fear!.i finally decided i had to do something about it so i got my parents to take me on an aeroplane and i sat in the window seat!.after a few minutes i realised there was nothing to worry about and now i have no problem with heights!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
