What to ask a new psychiatrist?!

Question: What to ask a new psychiatrist!?
I have battled with depression off and on my whole life, and have been off and on medications, and in and out of therapy!. I also have some anxiety issues!. I've been diagnosed with both by different docs!. Runs in my family too!.

I have tried the last few years to shake it off, but I finally admitted to myself that I'm stuck in another episode of this thing!. I function really well with my professional life, but my social life isn't too hot, and I feel like the depression and anxiety are really affecting my life!. I've seen it before!.

So I'm seeing a new psychiatrist tomorrow!. I'm not really excited about being on meds again!. What questions should I ask him to see if he's a good fit for me!? What things should I tell him!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
The one thing, main thing that you should asks is what is his/her basic procedure in treating people with your type of depression!.

You say you are not excited to be back on medication!. Then you would obviously not be compatible with a psychiatrist who uses medication as the main method of treatment!.

Also, I would look into alternative treatments of depression and ask him/her how they feel about those!. If you have one that particularly interests you, ask if they will be willing to treat you using that method!.

You should tell him a detailed description of what you feel when you are depressed!. When you were diagnosed and with what subcategory of depression!. How long your episodes last!. How easy (or not) is it for you to "shrug" it off!.

Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry you are feeling so badly again!.
You were able to feel better in the past so you know there is good hope you will feel better again!.
When you go to the psychiatrist I think first you should answer his questions!.
See how he responds to you!.
See if you feel comfortable with him!.
Most likely he will ask you if you have any questions for him!.
After you talk to him you may come up with something you want to know!. Good Luck with your appointment!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
