Welcome to the wild, wacky world of psychiatric meds!. I searched for anafranil via google for a while and found dozens of possible negative drug interactions but virtually nothing about caffeine!. I did run across one general precaution that you should tell your doctor if you drink alcohol (a no-no with almost all psych meds), smoke cigarettes or drink coffee!.

I suffer from major depression and attend a weekly support group for people with depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, etc!. We are constantly amazed at how differently people with very similar symptoms react so differently to the same meds!. This includes positive benefits as well as neg!. side effects!.

It's odd you would have such a strong reaction to coffee when your dose of anafranil is so low!. However, this may be your body's way of telling you to stay away from coffee, at least while taking this med!. I suggest speaking to your doctor to hear what he has to say!. I am not so sure that decaf coffee is much better than caf coffee---even with the brands that say they use water processing for taking out the caffeine!. However, to caf or to decaf is up to you!.

So I guess listen to your own body is all I can suggest to you!. Caffeine is supposed to be junk anyway!. So maybe it is time to let it go!. Be well!.

By the way, I just did a spell check!. I was advised to replace "anafranil" with "unafraid!." Maybe that is a message for you!?!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Caffeine really is a strong drug, and combining it with Anafranil appears to make the jittery reaction stronger exponentially!. You might consider sharing your discovery with the prescribing physician!. I switched to decaf many years ago and don't miss the caffeine at all!. I don't have any difficulty being alert or getting up - give caffeine free a try!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, you really shouldn't combine the two!. You should keep your caffiene intake as low as possible!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
