Answers:
Mostly you will sit there and fill out forms
Then answer questions that are asked of you!.
Remember this is a medical Dr - just like your family Dr is!.
Many, if not most of the questions you are asked will be the same as your family Dr has asked you!.
There will be questions that reveal your memory!.
You will be asked what concerns bring you in today!.
You will be asked what symptoms you have that bother you!.
You will be asked if you have difficulty performing your daily tasks,
speaking with people, if you are worried, if you are eating and sleeping OK!. You may be asked how other people treat you!.!.!.like in a group, at school, or at work!. You may be asked if you have dreams or memories that are disturbing to you!.
This does NOT MEAN that anyone is crazy!.
You will have a chance to ask questions of the Dr too!.
There may be a written test for you to fill-out!.
You may talk about what medications you currently take,
about what symptoms bother you, and what options there are
to deal with unpleasant symptoms you experience today!.
It may surprise you to find out how your symptoms can be treated, whether with or without medications!.

You go to the dentist, you see a Dr when you sprain your ankle,
seeing a psychiatrist is for when you have symptoms of mood or behavior or memory that are disturbing you!. Not a big deal!. Relax!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Firstly seeing a psychiatrist is scary for most people the first time!. So that is to be expected and the psychiatrist will take this into account if its the first time you've seen him/her!.

What you're experiencing is normal anxiety related to something which for now is unknown to you!. The things you are saying are common misconceptions about mental health which many uninformed or misinformed people believe!. Just take things at your own pace and try your best to explain what you feel is happening etc with you!.

The psychiatrist will ask you various questions to assist in helping him/her to decide how to help you!. There will also be a chance for you to explain yourself what you think and feel is happening to you!.

A psychiatrist can prescribe medication if he/she thinks you need it!. Otherwise you may just be referred to a psychologist or therapist etc for appropriate help!.

It may not be necessary to see a psychiatrist more than once if there are suitable alternatives to help you!. I have only seen a psychiatrist once and was then referred to an Occupational Therapist and things are working out just fine and I'm getting all the support I need!.

Hope this helps!.

First:Does this mean I am crazy!?
It might make you feel better to know that psychiatrists have to see psychiatrists before they can become psychiatrists!.
One of the first questions they she ask you is "What brought you here today!?
Hopefully you did not hurt yourself!.
You will pretty much be answering questions about your life and what you think about it!. She will probably cut you off at least twice to go in a different direction, no big deal!.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor and she may recommend some medication, which may be temporary or will need to be adjusted!.
She will ask you questions that you know the answer to, she will probably pick up on the fact that you do not open up well and start with easy questions, such as who do you live with!? what is your favorite thing about school!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

First off you aren't crazy!. I hate that word!. You are different and need help!. I have been going to a psychiatrist for many years!. First off, she wants to help you!. She will ask you questions to encourage you to talk!. Tell her whats bothering you as simply as you can!. Most therapists want to listen and let you talk!. Be honest with her!. Everything you say is between you and her!. She is there to help you!. I would recommend tell her that you are nervous and go from there!. Remember you are in control!. Talk about what you want to talk about!. Good LuckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I don't know why you have to see a psychiatrist!. But the good news is if you have to, you are in luck!.

Pyschiatric care is expensive!. So if you will be able to see a psychiatrist, thats a bonus!.

Here's what will happen (if only to reduce your doubts)!. Expect questions!. Answer those questions truthfully!. At the end, he/she will be able to evaluate your mental state!.

If you need to see a "psych" as they call them, it doesn't mean "DOOM"!. It just mean that there is doubt!. And a very competent "pysch" could easily rule out any doubt!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Calm down!.!.!.!. :)

Psychiatrists ask you some questions about how you're feeling - it's their job to perscribe medicine to help you feel better!.!.!.!. she's not going to ask for your deepest secrets or anything like that!. She's just going to get some general information to try and help you!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Just be open and honest and try to tell her exactly how you're feeling!. You will have to talk a lot, but it's a good thing!. She/He is going to be the ONLY person that will be able to speak to you without agenda or judgement!. enjoy it! I love therapy, it's nice!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Talk is much or as little as you choose!. They don't have needles or sharp objects!. Relax!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
