Question: My boyfriend needs mental help but doesn't have insurance!.!?
Hello!. I have a little problem with my boyfriend!.!.!.!.he is going through a lot lately, thinking about his mom's death and everything in the past he has done and he had a breakdown the other night and he told me he really needs help before he goes crazy, like he did when he was 16!. He also has an addiction, to video games!. He can't stop playing them and even is pushing me away to play them!. Sounds like any normal guy, right!? Haha, no, seriously!. He is really addicted!. He brings his laptop places to play and lately I haven't been staying at his apartment because he told me he uses games to self-medicate, I suppose you'd say, and doesn't want me to see him like that!. He really needs some help, but he doesn't have insurance through his company yet (we are in Grand Rapids, MI!.) So!.!.!.any advice!? And NO, I am not taking him to a mental home and locking him up unless he tries something!.!.!.thanks!. :-)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Most state mental health agencies will provide help to those who can't afford private therapy!. Depending on how things are in Grand Rapids, he should be able to get something like weekly meetings with a psychologist or counselor and probably meetings with a psychiatrist and medication if he needs it!.

Unless he's an immediate danger to himself or others, trust me, the state won't want to expend the resources to commit him to a psych ward full time!.

Do some looking around at the links below, but someone local at one of your community mental health centers will be able to guide you much better than I can!.
