How did your doctor react when you expressed you think you might have a certain !

Question: How did your doctor react when you expressed you think you might have a certain mental illness!?
Okay, I'll try to keep this short:

A few months ago I finally seeked medical help for depression I've been struggling with alone since things that happened in my childhood!. My GP has been great and Im on anti-depressants!.

The problem is I seem to the description of borderline personality almost perfectly and its something I've thought about a bit in the past!. Even down to the smallest details like on Mind's website it says "People who know you may describe you as very changeable" and thats one of the things my best friend has cited as being difficult about me!.

I want to explore this more as I want to have the best chance of learning to cope with my feelings!. Im worried my GP will dismiss me as someone who's heard a bit about something and thinks they can self-diagnose!.

What have other people's experiences been of sharing concerns with their doctors!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah, I've had this problem in the past, best thing to do is tell your doctor your not feeling yourself, and when he/she asks in what way, explain all your symptoms/traits and let them work it out for themselves!. I did that the first time I went to see the doc about my ocd, I knew if I walked in there claiming to have ocd he would dismiss me as most people have their little things!. So I told him all the things I was doing without mentioning ocd, and he took it from there, he was really great, he was the first person to listen to me in many many years, and by the end of it all I think he felt as if he'd really helped me!. It was nice!Www@Answer-Health@Com

My experience has been

"I am the doctor"

Then i was proved right, he then said i had

"had a lucky beginners guess,"

just can't winWww@Answer-Health@Com

Always share any concerns with your Doctor as a sensible Doctor will give you the information you need!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well when i decided that it might be a good time to talk to a doctor about me struggling with being happy, i sought the help of a psychiatrist!. we started with the basics, like who i am and why do i think i need to be there!. i told her that i thought i could be depressed but she proved to me that it wasn't that it was the stress of changes that i had been going through!. she didn't get excited or think i was insane, she was supportive that i was coming to her to seek an answer to the problems that i was having!. i feel that the help i got from her would be better help than i would have gotten from my GP if i had talked to her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
