Lack of sleep questions?!

Question: Lack of sleep questions!?
Hey, recently I've been getting about 2 hours of sleep per night, about 4 hours or so over the weekend nights!. I was just wondering, what are some tricks to help me sleep!? Heres what usually happens when I try to sleep!.!.!.

Go to bed at 1 AM
Lie down in bed until 4-5 AM trying to fall asleep
Get up, go for a walk, come back and get some food/milk or whatever until about 5-6 AM
Then fall asleep at about 5:30 to 6:30 AM
Then wake up at about 7:30 or 8 AM then go to school

What will help me sleep!? My parents don't want me to get sleeping pills because they think I might get addicted to them or something bad will come from them!. I am going through depression and have been told lack of sleep is probably caused from my depression!.

Basically what it feels like is I am always running off caffine, like having a coffee every 15-30 minutes, my body ache's, all my muscles hurt or feel very weak but mentally I cannot fall asleep!.

Sometimes I will randomly crash and fall asleep for like 20 hours (about once every 2 weeks)

Also, I have been having this problem for a bit over a month, pretty much since school started!. So what can help me fall asleep!? Except sleeping pills!.!.!. I have tried drinking warm milk etc, I have tried working out for as long as I can before I sleep and everything!. Any suggestions!?

Oh, and I am 15 years old too!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you're that young, and don't want to become dependent on pills, there are two things you can do!.

1!. Have a cup of herbal tea, such as Celestial Seasonings SleepyTime, or Chamomile tea about an hour before bedtime!.

2!. Take a capsule of Valerian root two hours before sleep!. It's another herbal supplement!.

3!. Considering Melatonin!. It's another non-addictive herbal supplement!. Both this and all of the above you can buy at the grocery store!.

4!. Stop TV, computer use, and radio - lower the lights and climb into bed with a good book!. You want to slow your mind down to relax, and all of the above will just stimulate you!. Light a candle in a relaxing scent, like Lavender - and before that take a nice warm bath using lavender scented, or vanilla scented bath salt!. Both of those are aromatherapy scents which have calming efforts!.

5!. Don't have any caffeine after noon!. It will still be coursing though your body 12 hours later!.

6!. DO NOT work out any longer than six hours before bed!. Working out causes adrenaline rushes which last for about six hours before it's back to normal!. It makes your body tired but not your brain!.

7!. Try to stop drinking large amounts of liquid before you go to bed, as least two hours!. Otherwise your bladder will fill up and make you uncomfortable enough to keep you stirring!.

8!. If you wake up in the middle of the night, turn on a low light and read for a while, as opposed to getting out of bed!. It will soothe you back down!.

9!. Make sure your room is cool!. A warm room will also wake you right on up!.

10!. And lastly, make sure that your bed and pillows - etc!. Aren't the problem!. A bad mattress, bad pillow, bedsheets or blankets that are too thick or thin will make you uncomfortable!. Hope this helps!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have a serious sleeping problem such as yours and also suffer from depression!. I would go to the doctor and get some blood work done to make sure you don't have a sleep disorder such as restless leg syndrome!.!. that's what I did!.!. they check your blood and can find out if any sleep disorders are in order!.!. I ended up not having a disorder so they said it's probably depression!. They would not prescribe me a sleep med!.!. now it's been about 4 months now and I still can't sleep properly!.!. last night I laid in bed such as you tossing and turning and thinking!.!. its horrible! I take an over the counter medication!.!. Tylenol Simply Sleep and I don't take a whole one I break in in half and take half with water immediately before I head off to bed!.!. sometimes it helps sometimes it doesn't!.!. overall its drifts me off eventually and I don't wake up during the night!.!. I've tried melatonin and it did nothing!.!.made me kind of sick to my stomach!.!. you could try Valerian root in pill form!.!. I heard it helps alot!.!. also don't work out immediately before bed!.!. your body needs at least a 1/2 hour for its metabolism to slow down to its normal stateWww@Answer-Health@Com

Hey,

Some of the things you are doing are very bad, you should not have caffeine no matter how tired you are!.!.!.if you were tired enough you would fall asleep but by drinking caffeine your making sure your body stays awake all the time!. Also no matter how bored you get don't go take a walk in the middle of the night because it tells the body it's time to get working and it thinks you will be moving around for the next 12 or so hours causing it to stop you falling asleep, the same thing with exercising!.!.!.yes exercise is good but not right before bedtime!. Eating food in the middle of the night or right before bed is also a big no no because your body is so busy digesting your food while you sleep that it has no time to repair itself so your body is always worn down, having a drink is fine though as long as it's just milk or water!. Your right depression causes insomnia but so does all the things your doing wrong, i find taking a nice hot bath right before bed helps because it relaxes your body and gets it ready to go to sleep, also no computer or tv an hour before bed as it stimulates your brian and tells it too stay awake!. Your parents are right about the sleeping pills but you could get some herbal ones, i use ones called Kalms but Nytol are also very good, speak to your parents about it!.!.!.!. try and have a good sleep tonight :)
