How can I overcome my panic attacks?!

Question: How can I overcome my panic attacks!?
So I am a freshmen at college here at Towson University for about a month and recently I've been having these panic attacks!. They started in class one day in my psychology class and I had to leave to go to the bathroom!. These continued in class for a few days when we would talk about mental disorders or insanity in Hamlet in my script class!. I did some research on it (this may have been a bad idea) and convinced myself I was suffering from depression!. I know I'm not but still now every night I freak out and have these panic attacks!. I can't sleep and it's driving me crazy!. When I'm having an attack I've never felt so hopeless in my entire life!. I fear that I will be stuck in that state of mind forever and nothing will help me until I die from it!. I know this is not the case but when I'm in that state I can't seem to think otherwise!.

If you've been through this or know what's going on with me please help!. Thank you!.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc!.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc!.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level!.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication!. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac!. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings!. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac!. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc!.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced!.!.!. you have that "learned behavior" in your mind!. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this!. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction!.!.!. There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to!.!.!.!.

I think you have had your first depression pains not panic attack!. They are far more scary and if you keep your mind you will remember to avoid certain places and people!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have had panic attacks ever since high school!. It sucks so bad doesn't it!?

I have tried medication and don't like taking it!.!.!.!. or the way it makes me feel, so I've just learned how to talk myself down!.!.!. off the "edge" so to speak!. You have to recognize that it's just a panic attack and it will pass and you just need to ride it out and STOP thinking about the fact that you're freaking out!. That is what always makes it worse!.!.!.!. by thinking about it!.!.!. !.dwelling on the attack, or the potential for an attack, or the fear of an attack at that moment!. Just tell yourself STOP!. take deep slow breaths, recognize and accept what is happening to you and KNOW that it will pass and let your mind think about something else until it does!.

You can do this!. If it keeps happening, and you can't talk yourself down from it!.!.!.!. see your doctor and try the meds!. They work like a charm for some people!. But what ever you do, don't suffer through this!. Depression and anxiety go hand in hand!. Your campus might have counseling programs you can go to!. Being in college has a lot of pressure academically, physically, socially, mentally!.!.!.!.!.!. it's not surprising that you are experiencing this!.

What ever you do!.!.!.!. don't self medicate with drugs or alcohol!. That's the road I went down and that isn't good either!.

Relax, accept, see your doctor, see a counselor!. Good luck to you!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well I have heard that people in college can convince themselves of all kinds of things when they are in school!. I think that maybe you might need to ask your doctor if he can give you some medication to help you get a good night's sleep or a few!. I know that when I start getting a lot of panic attacks I take some Ambien for a few days and then I few a lot better!. I do have a panic disorder, and is triggered by a whole bunch of different things!.

Personally I think it is most likely just stress from school!. Is the class you most often have the attacks the same time everyday!? Maybe you have low blood sugar at that time of day that is adding to it!? Try talking to your teacher and your doctor about it and see if you can have a snack in class, and get some rest!.

If you do have an attack, breathe, close your eyes, and focus on your breathing!. Breathe slow and deep for 1-2 minutes!. This is what I do, and really helps!. After the attack starts to fade, go get a drink of water, take a break, just try to relax!. Make sure you tell your teacher what is going on so they will allow you to do those things or take an extra break!.

I hope that helps!. If not, tell your doctor and see if he/she can put you on an anti-anxiety medication and you might think about getting a therapist if you don't have one to teach you some good stress relief techniques!.

Hugs and don't forget to!.!.!.!.Breathe!! ;)Www@Answer-Health@Com
