This is regarding Obsessive Compulsive Disorder...?!

Question: This is regarding Obsessive Compulsive Disorder!.!.!.!?
I have OCD, so I know almost all the ends and outs of it (the annoying thoughts, checking, cleaning, counting, and other stuff like that)!. But I wonder if some of the symptoms are linked to having a bad memory!. Like, with my OCD, I'm a checker and also have a lot of doubt questioning myself rather or not an action was done correctly!. I think the reason why I excessively check things and wonder rather or not if somethings been done properly is because I have a poor memory!. I cannot remember every single detail! For example, yesterday at work when I was closing my stand and clearing my money drawer, I checked everything like five or six times cause I couldn't remember right away if it was done properly!. I go around asking myself "I'm trying to remember how I did blah, blah, blah, I can't remember if I did right!.!.!." So are my checking compulsions caused by having a poor short term memory!? I wonder if there's a way to have a better short term memory so I won't have to keep checking and doubting all the time!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
its not your memory its your ocd in action!.

the fear anxiety and worry etc makes you feel the need to repeat double check redo your ritual behaviors because you feel you must, and if you are unsure, you must double check!.

Hence the obsession -thinking and compulsion- act!.
it isn't that you cant remember it is that you are obsessional about it and so you cannot be sure until you are sure!. And if you arent convinced you have checked thoroughly the thoughts will eat at you all day until you do!.

Its hard if not impossible for you to be sure you have done something and leave it confident that you have!. !.!.!. that's ocd!.

You could have a lousy memory too who knows!. But what you describe are the features of your ocd!.

There are kits on the market to help you retrain and enhance your short term memory, just google short term memory improvement!. I understand how you feel, and it could be just a poor short term memory!. Mine was a bit of both, my doctor and I discovered!. I am compulsive about making lists now and checking off what needed to be done when I complete it!. I am undecided if this really helps or adds something else to my OCD, but at least it feels less stressful!. Someone suggested that I take gingko biloba for short term memory improvement, and I plan to discuss it with my doctor first!. Take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
