I have had some panic attacks that sound less severe than yours!. I'll start off talking about meds!. The SSRIs as well as Effexor are generally for depression, but can also help with panic attacks!. Also, Buspar is an anti-anxiety med that might help!.

However, probably what you need for bad panic attacks are the meds that many docs don't like to give---the benzodiazepines (because they can be addictive)!. However, if you doc will give these, you should probably start with the short acting benzos first, like ativan or xanax!. (These meds leave the body pretty quickly!.) If these don't work, try to get klonopin, librium or valium---in that order!. Valium takes weeks to clear your body!. The other two clear much faster!.

Please make sure you are seeing a really good psychiatrist, not a general practitioner!. A psychopharmacologist has even more experience than a psychiatrist!. Possibly a neurologist or a respiratory therapist might help!.

Of course, there are alternative medicine approaches, like the breathing exercises another person mentioned!. Certain types of hypnotherapy can, at least in theory, lead you back in time to the event(s) that caused the panic attacks!. Resolving that event can help you overcome the attacks!. I hope this gives you some ideas!. By the way, I am not an MD, so go thru the proper medical channels first!. I wish you well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc!.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc!.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level!.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication!. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac!. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings!. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac!. Other natural ways will be exercise, diet, more exposure to light, etc!.

The problem is that, even if your Serotonin is balanced!.!.!. you have that "learned behavior" in your mind!. You need to break that initial cycle to destroy that learned behavior - Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) does this!. A technique that you can use without CBT will be Distraction!.!.!. There are several other techniques to help cope them!
Ok, to use Distraction: Firstly, try to!.!.!.!.

The best advice I can give is "learn how to let stuff roll off your shoulder!." I used to suffer from anxiety attacks!. I worried about everything, even problems I didn't have!. One day, I had enough, and I decided to take each situation one day at a time!. It's hard, but it works!. I still worry, but a lot less!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
