How do i get my family to understand just how depressed i am when all i can do i!

Question: How do i get my family to understand just how depressed i am when all i can do is fake a smile!?
I am already seeing a psychologist and they understand, but what i need most right now is for my family to understand too!. I have tried talking to them, but whatever i say just gets dismissed!. They know i have issues, they just dont take them seriously!. I have been diagnosed with severe depression yet they continue to totally disregard the fact that their little girl is on the brink of suicide!. I just dont know what to do, and before you suggest it!.!.!. no im not going to commit suicide, ive come too far to quit now!. Is their ignorance perhaps just a coping mechanism!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Yes, probably is just a coping mechanism!. They probably don't want to accept their daughter has depression because they don't know how to cope with it and have most likely never had to deal with it before!. It's like the saying "if you haven't had depression, you don't know what it is like!."

Try and talk to them again and try making them understand!. They love you, but probably don't know how to cope with it!. Maybe they could talk to professional people who understand depression, or maybe they could read about it on the Internet!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is probably a coping mechanism!. Do you have any thoughts as to what they could do to help you!? If so share them with them!. They may not know what they should do to support you and help you deal with this!. Maybe they could accompany you to one of your psychology sessions so this issue can be addressed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have the same problem - people must realize that the only difference between a broken arm and depression is that the arm can be plainly seen - Depression is no less painful!. You can't fix a broken arm by thinking about it, and many cases of depression are no different!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It probably is a coping mechanism!. They probably don't understand what you are going through!. Try sitting down with your family one by one and telling them your true feelings!. Maybe that would help!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You need to find something that you enjoy like running, roller skating, church, reading, going somewhere like a restaurant, a park, ect!.

Make a list of things that make you happy and try to do them!. Part of the problem is getting your mind off of your problems, if you have any, or just getting out of a rut!.

Don't say there is nothing that makes you happy!. If you have to sit and think about it for a long time, you will come up with something!. How about volunteering some time at an animal shelter or zoo or hospital!. Do things for others always helps!.

Good Luck!.

That Is A Very Hard Thing To Go Through When You Have No One Else In Your Family To Talk To Because They Think The Psychologist Is Taking Complete Care Of The Whole Situation!.
You Really Need To Get their Attention Somehow!.
Like At The Dinner Table Or When You Are All In the Same Room Together You Need To Catch Their Attention And Keep Their Attention So You Can Make Your Point And Get Them To Understand!.

It Sounds Kind Of Erratic But,If This Is The Best Thing To Do Is Freak Out Like Then They'll Now Wow This Is Serious!.

"I AM AN INCH CLOSE TO KILLING MYSELF AND I NEED YOU TO HELP ME AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE WITH MY STRESS,DEPRESSION,AND ANYTHING ELSE I'M GOING TO NEED HELP WITH!."

-Good Luck And Don't Give Up On Life You Are Right You Certainly Have Come Far To Have Even Posted This Instead Of Let it Build Up!.

Shae, several things:

1] Yes it is probably a coping mechanism for them!. They too may have battled depression at various points in their lives, but are ashamed to admit it or they figured they got through it, so you should too!. Of course we both know that everyone is completely different in how severe the depression is!. Don't give up trying to get them to understand!. I would print out online depression website info!. for them to read how real and how bad it can get!. But also, talk to them about what causes severe stress and depression for you, as much as you can figure out!.

2] It's great you are seeing a psychologist!. If you are not already try to be open to taking meds at least for 6 months!. When we are under strong stress for extended periods of time, our glands get tired and can't keep secreting enough antistress hormones!. When that happens our brain neurochemistry goes into severe depression!. Antidepressants/antianxiety meds help normalize brain chemistry and help give the glands a rest so that they can recover over time!.

3] Eating a healthy diet including protein and complex carbs, taking a vitamin/mineral supplement for women (including magnesium and B vitamins), taking flaxseed oil supplement, drinking plenty of water to detox yourself, and getting daily cardio exercise and some sunlight help the brain chemistry to normalize and the glands to recover!.

4] You are taking the first steps to recover!. Your family, friends and those around you need you even though it may not seem so!. Try to be good to yourself and not belittle yourself!.

I'll be praying for your recovery!. Take care! BIG HUG!!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com
