What is it like to have a flashback?!

Question: What is it like to have a flashback!?
A friend of mine recently suffered a very traumatic death in the family, and lately she has had some strange experiences during the day!. She goes into a daydream or something that causes her to feel very emotional and sometimes sick and then suddenly she returns to reality and can't remember what she was thinking about that caused her to space out!.

Anyone out there really know from personal experience what a flashback is like, and please describe!.!.!.!?

Thanks!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

What you are describing is almost definitely a symptom of PTSD, that arises when the conscious mind recoils from having to deal with issues, 'thrown' to it from the unconscious!. The unconscious can't assimilate the event, until the conscious deals with it, and if the conscious mind is unable to accept the event, you get a kind of Sepsis, that presents itself, via the symptoms you describe!. A good counsellor will know how to force your friends consciouss mind to confront the issues that are causing this 'septic backlog' and , in time your friend will be able to accept the trauma
that is causing so much pain and anguish, and move on with her life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've heard this term usually associated with LSD flashbacks, most likely an urban legend because I've never had any!. The term you probably mean to refer to is PTD (Post Traumatic Stress)!. I can't speak from personal experience there either but I would say it is more related to mental illness than it is to a chemical imbalance in the brain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Flashbacks usually occur after trauma!. The persons brain is impacted in such a way the the person can repress or suppress the feelings from the event or the actual event!. My ex boyfriend was back from Afghanistan and woke up in the middle of the night yelling and apologizing to his troops in the bedroom!. He never remembered it!. I am in upper level psych classes and the teacher told me its the subconscious trying to get the experience out of the mind!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Its like you are there at that moment all the emotions are there not like a memory but real!. It can occur at anytime and can really send a person into turmoil with not only a emotional but physical response!.

The best way it to get it all out and talk about it!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
