I find getting a punch bag or something and hitting it until all your frustration and anger is gone and your so tired that you don't have the energy to harm!. Or take up boxing, (just make sure you're not too rough on the other person though!.)

I find it also helps to just get out the house and away from your 'tools'!.
I'd advise to go for a walk, as exercise can help lift your mood, take someone with you if you feel really triggered though, as you never know, you might find something sharp whilst on a walk and end up self harming anyway!.

I like going on long bus journeys, I just jump on the bus, and listen to my music, and obviously because there's lots of other people around, I'm much less likely to self harm, and by the time you get home again, the urge has normally passed, or has subsided to a point where I can control it better!.

As other people have suggested, sometimes carving into wood can help, but I'd just be careful with this one, as if you are really triggered, you will just end up cutting yourself instead!.

Ermm, there's the ice cube trick, in which you hold an ice cube against the area you want to harm, and it feels like pain, but it's actually not!.

The rubber band trick, if you are having urges, put a rubber band (hair band, elastic band/ whatever) around your wrist, and whenever you feel like harming, ping it against your wrist, this apparently teaches your brain to associate urges with negativity and there for they are meant to become less frequent!.!.!. apparently!.

(Again be careful with this one) but another distraction I like is, you carve into a candle, and then light the candle, and watch it until all the wax has melted down to the point you carved, then you do it again, until the urge has went away, or you've ran out of candle!.

Go on Recover Your Life, it's a website, which also has a forum, which gives tips, advise and support to self harmers, and offers distractions!. You can also get help from other self harmers, and it is just generally a nice, friendly place!.

That's all the tips I can think of just now, but if anyone ever needs to talk, feel free to private message me, or send me a comment or whatever!.

Hope that helps, take care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i never used to understand cutting, until i learned about how the body and minds deals with injury!. when you sustain injury, supposedly the brain releases endorphins that make you feel better, and somewhere over a course of time, people figured they could use it to make themselves feel better!.

Anyways considering it is a real addiction, you can either go cold turkey, replace it with something else or cut less and less until you can deal with stopping!.These are techniques used to deal with drug addiction, and they may work well with other addictions!.Id reccomend finding something to occupy you that you actually enjoy, it makes the pain go away a bit!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Oh man do I ever have to fight that urge all the time!. I have been a cutter on and off for over 10 years so I know the feeling!. Actually my latest attempt was around a friend that helped me thru the sitch!. What I ended up doing to feel better was to carve out my feelings into my desk with a knife or sharp object!. Find something that you can destroy or "inflict" that's inanimate!. It does allow you to get out the aggression!. Get some plywood or even a wall in your closet where you can go!. That way you can still get your agression out but you don't end up with unsightly scars that only depress you later!. Good luck honey! I know how you feel but do fight it!. The scars aren't worth the satisfaction!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I also am having a hard time not cutting myself anymore!. In fact, i actually was tempted to cut myself today!. You are definitely not alone!. For me, I dive into my other passions!. I have a cigarette, listen to some music, do some art (which probably helps a lot), watch a good uplifting movie!. Usually something creative, like my art, helps me the most!. It vents and simultaneously takes my mind off of the inner pain!. There are also sites online specifically for cutters!. I've found them to be very supportive and helpful!. Sometimes it can help to have professional opinion to maybe point out something you haven't thought of yet!. I really hope my answer helps!.

(By the way, Brandon A!., is that short for Brandon ***hole by any chance!? It takes a weak-willed person to insult others to make himself feel better, genius!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

For me, it really depends on where my trigger came from, and why I want to cut!. If I want to feel numb, I watch tv, play a game on the computer, read, listen to music at full volume!.!. anything that will numb my mind!. But if I'm shaking so bad or I can feel it in my wrists, I usually have to let myself cry it out or scream!. This is where screaming to music really helps!.

Good Luck!.!. and Take Care!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

How can you get "addicted" to causing pain to yourself!? This isn't a mental problem - this is a mental handicap!. You obviously have no feelings for anyone else (Like I, who has to suffer reading this nonchalant bull and attempt to feel pity for you)!. This isn't an addiction because it's physical!. You are doing it because you are an attention whore!.

There's no urge to fight - you are just an imbecile that thinks there is!. Go find another hobby like hanging yourself, jerk!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
