Do you think the stigma of being mild/moderately mentally ill has decreased? How!

Question: Do you think the stigma of being mild/moderately mentally ill has decreased!? How much!?
I was wondering because there are so, so many ppl who take anti-depressants and anxiety meds!. I am a grad student in social work and have both anxiety and depressive disorders/illness!. I take meds as well!. I notice though that it seems like people still rag on the mentally ill even though it seems like the majority of society is on meds, just ashamed to admit it!. i don't think that the general public attitude towards mental illness has changed!. i believe though that they try to make it look as if it has changed, but tell someone you meet in public and are having a nice conversation with that you are schizophrenic, bipolar and see how they respond to this piece of information!. they usually say something like you poor thing life must be so hard for you!. have to leave now!. have a nice day!. and then they are gone in like under one minute!. or all of a sudden they remember that they have a book that they just have to read so they stick their nose in the book so that they don't have to talk any more or they just have to move to that more comfortable chair right over there!. there is more information than ever out there about mental illness but if people still stick their heads in the ground concerning it that information out there isn't going to do a bit of good!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Once my brother was depressed and that was his excuse for not working!. I thought he was just being a lazy *** and just needed to go to work and I was really harsh on him about it!. Years later I was hit with depression to the point where I'm now diabled so I now understand what he was going through, but I don't think anyone can really understand it unless they've been there!. I always considered it weakenss of character, now I'm in that position and also understnand what and how others consider it!. All of our family think we're bums, and in a way I still suffer the stigma from myself!. I was always a hard worker with a good work ethic before!. So I don't think it's changed much, maybe in different ways!. Now that you can get Social Security for it people think you're working the system!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that being depressed and anxious is normal in today's throw away society where employers throw away American employees like discarded trash in order to either import cheap low cost workers from other countries or to export the jobs there!. I don't think that being depressed and anxious in this type of world is a mental illness!. Now there are some folks who really do have a brain disorder - my oldest son, who is paranoid schizo, for example!. But normal people can easily get anxious and depressed these days!.!.!.so there should be NO STIGMA to this response!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think the stigma hasn't decreased at all!. Most ppl are in need of meds because society has made us ill or made most of us think we are!. Ppl I think feel stupid about being ill if they really are because we are all pressured to have this controlled perfect life when it's not possible!. It's this illusion everyone is trying to fulfill and no one can achieve yet we look down on each other for not fulfilling societal standardsWww@Answer-Health@Com

No, I think mental illness has escalated to the point that if you show any emotion at all you are deemed to have behavioral problems!. Mental illness is a business that has been accepted by the majority, but 90% of people who are deemed mentally ill aren't!. People have been brainwashed to believe something is wrong with them when nothing is!. It is propaganda that has been released to the public by drug companies in order to better sell their product, and the public has fallen for it hook, line, and sinker!. Psychology is not even based upon fact, if you went to 10 different doctors, you would probably receive 10 different diagnoses because it is all based upon hypothesis!. There are no tests that exist that even prove that chemicals in the brain cause mental illness, and most people don't know that the same drug prescribed to a schizophrenia patient also treats depression, bipolar, and psychosis!. In other words one drug fits all mental illnesses!. People also aren't aware that most doctors receive incentive pay from drug companies for selling their drugs, so it is in their best interest for everyone to be mentally ill!. Most psych meds can have very serious long term side effects such as diabetes, heart disease, liver damage, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts, cause major depression or schizophrenia!. So the same types of illnesses they are supposed to prevent they cause!. This is not logical!. I don't know if you've ever seen the movie Exorcism of Emily Rose, but if you have and then you look up her case history on line, you will see that her illness progressed right along with her treatment!. It is my opinion that the doctors killed her and their treatment created her illnesses!. ;-)Www@Answer-Health@Com
