Does your family automatically blame your illness?!

Question: Does your family automatically blame your illness!?
Everytime I disagree with anyone in my family they automatically say, "your medication needs to be adjusted"!. I'm really tired of it!. It's driving me away from them and though I love them, it just makes me feel more "defective" than I already feel!.

Does anyone else have this issue!? How do you handle it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It has happened in the past!. And you're right, it really sucks!. It's almost akin to a betrayal of trust !.!.!. like, I let you in, I told you how I feel, what's going on, what's wrong !.!.!. and now you're using it against me in a time of struggle!? It's so wrong on so many levels!. What I have realized is that often times, people who don't understand what I am going through tend to generalize things and tend to be afraid of what it is that I deal with !.!.!. and also, I think a certain amount of it comes down to control!. They will pull out the whole "mental illness" card so they can "win" whatever battle is at hand!. You're not defective!. You are normal!. For YOU!. The difficulty comes with learning to accept ourselves as we are and learning to live happily, and realizing that while our "normal" might not be someone else's idea of "normal", that's ok!. We are just fine!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes! Families always seem to blame something else so that they don;t have to take any blame themselves!. It is really irritating and makes you want to scream!. Try explaining that just because you have a certain illness it doesn't mean you lost every other human emotion and that your entitled to feel the way you want to and it isn't always related back to medication!. Trying to explain a mental illness to people is really hard though so try your best but try not to stress!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I have the opposite problem!. Every time my illness starts to affect me, my family gets upset with me personally and completely forgets that I have a problem!.

One thing that usually helps, no matter what the deal it, though!.!.is talking to them!. Tell them how it makes you feel, as your doctor what you could do or say!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You are entitled to have a bad day without any reason!.
I don't adjust my meds just because I got angry at someone or am having a bad day!.
Tell them that you have the right to disagree, or be angry!.

When another person in the family is having a bad day, do they run to the Dr!. for meds!?

Learn to stand up for yourself!.

I did!.

yeh my mom does it all the time
if i say i seen something or heard someone say somthing she just says lets go back to the doctor and see if he can do anything with your meds to help!.!.
its quite irritating but just try to explain to them that it doesnt have to be like that for every little experiance
good luck

hell yes
its either "your medication needs to be adjusted" or "did you remember your medication" or "are you sure your medications working" or "maybe its time for a new/additional medication" and "how about we just medicate everything away and if your still conscious by the end of it you get a smiley face sticker and a check plus" ok the last one was a joke but seriously i hate it because its like ok do you have any tact at all i mean i just know theyd never say something like that to a non family friend who they knew had a mental illness and its really none of tehir business is it unless your posing a danger to yourself or others (which obviously your not if your just disagreeing with them on something) then they should really keep out of your affairs and whenever it happens and i suck it up i feel like i just want to block out the memory which is why i dont suck it up anymore cause its not right and the only way to change things is to take charge and do something about it

so now i handle it by saying something like "i feel defective when i am viewed in terms of my illness rather than as a human being with opinions that are no less valid than anyone elses so just because i disagree with you doesnt mean that im automatically 'wrong' just because i am ill and that its a sign my medication needs to be adjusted i am not controlled by medication i use medication to help me control myself and id appreciate it if my personal matters were kept that way-personal!"

ok well that was the polite way but what i really say is "screw you mind your own business im not just a side effect" yesss i have anger issues anyway i hope i helped at least give you an idea of what to convey but you might want to make it less wordy than mine i have trouble with that and things tend to lose their impact the more wordy they are

you know what sucks equally bad !? when those same people who say that the meds need to be pushed up a notch in the moment if your talking about something thats not directly jsut happened (like my longstanding difficulty preparing food for myself) its as if they think im completely fine and im to blame for all my problems

what would really help for them to get is balance between accepting the limitations your illness imposes on you and then coming up with ways to overcome them it takes time but hey its worth itWww@Answer-Health@Com
