Question: Is it possible to survive a coma for 5 years or so!?
I just got the game Saints row 2!. So apparently you survived 5 years in a coma!. Is that even possible!? Like Your body needs food water and other stuff to survive!. how do you survive in a coma for 5 years let alone a month!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is definitely possible to survive a coma for 5 years or even longer!.
Some people are able to breathe on their own, and others need to have life support to breathe for them!. The ones who can breathe on their own have a better chance at surviving!.
Of course the person needs food and water!. They will have an IV tube in their veins which will give them the fluids they need!. They will have a tube to feed them!. At first it will be a naso-gastro tube which goes up the nose and down into the stomach!. However, if the person remains in a coma for a long period of time, the docs will insert a tube directly into the belly, into the stomach!. This is how they are fed!.
If the person is just left lying there, their muscles would atrophy, losing all tone and getting skinnier and smaller, shriveling up!. This is prevented, for the most part, by having a Physical Therapist come to do what are called passive range of motion exercises!. They move the arms and legs and as many muscles as possible to strengthen them and keep them from tightening up!.
It is also essential for the nurses to change the position of the person, turning him/her from one side to the other!. This is to prevent pressure sores (bed sores)!. Pressure sores can easily become infected, which is very dangerous to the person!. Daily bathing is important, as well as applying lotions to the skin to keep it from breaking down
There is a lot of work involved in taking care of a person who is in a coma!. Playing music, turning on the TV and, most importantly, talking to the person is essential!. It is not yet known if someone in a coma can hear what is going on, but there have been signs that they can!. EEGs have shown brain wave changes when sounds are played near the person!. Some people who wake up report that they remember hearing things while they were unconscious!.

yes, definatley!. the hospital will have the person fed food and nutrients through tubes, and/or a life support machine for as long as possible, until it sometimes just gets to a stage where they have to switch off the life support!. However people have survived in comas for fourteen years and woken up!. It rarely happens though!. hope this helped! xWww@Answer-Health@Com
Medical machines!. You'd need at least a feeding tube/IV for nutrients!. If your lungs didnt work you'd need a ventilator!.
