Is Depression All In Your Mind?!

Question: Is Depression All In Your Mind!?
I know that there are exceptions to this rule, because people have suffered violent and traumatic experiences that will surely lead to depression!. But for the average person who has a normal life, I find it hard to believe people are clinically depressed over losing a job or being cheated on, or because they don't look good enough or have enough self-esteem and so on!. I tend to think that these people are choosing to feel sorry for themselves and choosing to take the easy way out by giving up on life instead of working hard at making necessary changes in their lives in attempt to make things better!. Someone was in here the other day saying that she just can't go on anymore because her parents got divorced and she hates college and only has one friend left!. I think it's a little silly to want to end your live over that when people have watched someone they love get killed or are starving because they can't afford food!. Those are real things to get depressed about so why are so many middle-class suburbia people whining about their problems and being diagnosed with depression!? Do they feel better when they play the victim and get sympathy!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

the fact that depression is a psychological disease makes it hard to classify whether its something physical or purely mental!. It kind of transcends both!. are chemical imbalances caused by internal conflicts and depressing thoughts or are the thoughts and conflicts caused by the chemical imbalance!? i know this is confusing to figure out, but its both!. its a vicious cycle!. Which is why alot of people tend to need psychotherapy AND medication to treat their depression!. but In some cases, people can clearly indentify why they are depressed, and for some, all they need is a pill to keep them happy!. and so be it, a pill doesnt make you any less of a person!. I dont think its silly to get depressed over anything (you think the person wants to be depressed!?) some people are more psychlogically sensitive, and some people also have better coping skills than others!. you dont know how it all is until you are depressed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I dont see why anybod would choose to feel depressed!.
Because I can tell you from experience that its not very fun!.
Obviously there are people in worse situations than many people living in the UK, but you cant tell people that their reason for depression isnt "bad enough", because it matters to them!.

Some things hit people harder than they would others!.

And for the record, depression does not feel better!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not at all!. Almost all depression is caused by situation and environment!. Change that and the depression is gone!. A few cases are chemical in the brain but most will be caused by your living situation or people you interact with!. Funny thing is the poorest of countries have the happiest people!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It can be chemical!. Sometimes it's not chemical and it's caused my low self-esteem or just small experiances you've had such as not getting a lot of attention!.

Anyone who says it's all in the mind is an ****!.

That's a really cold hearted position you take!. There are different degrees of depression ranging from very mild and temporary to terribly severe and chronic!. Mild depression can be triggered by a life experience but it passes!. This is normal depression everyone experiences from time to time!.

Some people are born with a chemical imbalance that causes depression!. This is a lifelong battle for them to lead a normal life!. Depression affects career and relationships, families, children, etc!. People don't choose to be depressed any more than schizophrenic people or those with bi-polar choose to have those diseases!.

We are our chemistry!. Notice how hormone levels change our personality!?

You stance on mental illness is akin to doctors who don't believe women really have monthly menstrual cramps!. Its all in their head!.

As far as the person who says people in poor countries are happier than people in industrialized countries has not seen poor people in Africa, India, and Bangladesh who are on the verge of death with buzzards flying overhead waiting for the feast!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Is a head cold all in the head!?
Our bodies are an integrated system!. Your moods do have a physical effect on other parts of your system - whether it be through a bad occurrence or through a chemical imbalance in the brain!.
Then, it works both ways!. To come out of depression you've got to want to - which is not easy!.
That's why with hardcore depression a supportive family or community is so important!.
But, yes, modern society is extremely selfish!. This leads to people being extremely self-occupied!. This can only lead to depression!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
