Question: Is it possible to be resistant to nearly all anti depressants/ psychotics!?
After being on multiple medications for major depressive disorder with psychotic features and anxiety, none have worked!. Never even felt the withdrawal symptoms or anything from any of them!. It made me think they are either just placebos, but with the cost and the othe rpeople who benifit i now think im just medication resistant!.

I am not taking my newest medications anymore and feel exactly the same still!. is it possible to be resistant to anti depressants/psychotics!? i am not resistant to seroquel i know, but i dont like that med in general!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No I think it's proof they don't work!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lots of people are resistant to antipsychotics!. That is when they break out the big guns--a drug called clozaril!. Side effects include death!. You have to get weekly blood tests while on it to make sure you are not going to die from it!. I have been offered it many times, but I would rather be psychotic than take clozaril!.

As for the depression, MAOI's are good for people with treatment resistant depression, but they are restrictive in your diet and what other meds and over the counter meds you can take!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If medications aren't helping then perhaps you're just making this all up!. Stop being a hypochondriac!.

Lol, jk!. But that is the answer you gave me when I asked about dysphoric hypomania (which does exist, I got an answer to prove it)!.

BUT, to answer your question, yes it is possible!. Sucks, but it's possible!. Scientists will keep creating new medications though, you'll find one to help you eventually!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Maybe you need to try different combinations of medications!.
I take Ritalin to help my energy and concentration along with Cymbalta in the morning!. I hope you and your doctor will find the right combination for you!. If all else fails, ECT is reserved for the small number of people that do not respond to medications!.
I hope you will feel better soon!. Best Wishes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You say you don't like anti-depressants, but how many have you tried!? If you list them, some of us might be able to offer another alternative that may work for you!.

Also have you tried complete mood stabilisers, more like the kind of medication you would get if you were bipolar!? It's a long shot, but for a long while, I was on prozac and something else, for my bipolar and I hated what it made me into, now I take Lithium and only occasionally see any side affects!.

Unless there are mania episodes as well, lithium might not be a good idea for you, but you need to keep trying until you find the right medication for you, it's out there someone!.

I think the only way you could become to immune to a medication is repeatedly taking it, i!.e!. penicillin immunity is because it's been overused and now the pathogens themselves are resistant to it, I'm sure it would work in the same sort of way for anti-depressants!. From the way you're explaining it, it doesn't sound like you've been taking any of the medications for long enough to become immune if it was possible!.

My other question is how long do you take the medications for before you give up on them!?

It typically takes lithium 1 - 2 weeks to start working properly
It typically takes prozac 1 month to start working properly
Different medications take a while to stabilise not only your moods but their levels within the blood which is why for a while you see no change!. I think maybe trying your new meds and giving it a while to start kicking in would be your best bet!.

Seroquel is a typical antipyschotic medication used for schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder as well as anti-anxiety sometimes!. The reason it knocked you out is because it is sometimes prescribed by physicians as a sedative for patients with sleep disorders or anxiety disorders!.

http://en!.wikipedia!.org/wiki/Seroquel just so you understand why it knocked you out and why you were given that!.

Keep trying, it'll work out eventually!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
