Question: A friend of mine has a form of Dyslexia and possibly Dyspraxia, will they ever go away!?
The form of Dyslexia he has is where he is unable to read black writing on a white background which obviously causes him trouble as almost everything is in this style of writing!. He also has terrible balance, his doctor is very poor and they are unwilling to help him!.

I am wondering, will they ever go away or get better!? Or can he seek specialist help (bearing in mind he is 19 and all the dyslexic centre's he's been to won't help people over the age of 8)!. Or will it get worse over time!?

I appreciate any light you can shed on this matter!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is never cured, but it is treatable!.
He may have scotopic sensitivity or irlen's syndrome!. just the part where he can't read black text off a white background!. he may just need tinted lenses!.
You should travel around and look for a good place that will treat him!. I had to travel far for my dyslexia test!.
I think it is very unfair that they don't treat anyone over 8!. I found out I had dyslexic symptoms at 22!. some people just find out a little later in life!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i think there are some kinds of balancing exorcises /(balance board) that can be done to help improve co-ordination - you should google it to get as much info as possible and perhaps your friend should take their findings to the doctor and ask to be referred to a specialist don't leave the doc's until you get what you want ! if you are pushy they will have to listen!.

Good Luck

p!.s if your friend takes you or a member of their family with them to help with the pushy-ness this should help !. If the doctor still doesn't want to help i'd recommend trying to get a new doctor though this is harder to do in some areas then others!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, dyslexia and dyspraxia is for life - there is no quick fix - but with the right help and support he can overcome it!.
There is a scale od dyslexia in the same way there is a scale of blindness!. He will always be at that level because that's how he was born, but there are certain tricks we can use to deal with it, like using color blinders when we read or using your eyes to balance!.
