Why does every one associate emo or scene with cutters or suicidal people?!
Question: Why does every one associate emo or scene with cutters or suicidal people!?
I am to say the least angry, that people associate suicide and cutting with being emo!. Just because society associates it with being emo doesn't mean its true, emo is a music genre and scene is a fashion, therefor it is wrong to tell someone they are Emo just because they cut!?
Does anyone feel differently or the same!?
What are your opinions on how society classifies emotionally unstable people, and why do they choose to call them EMO!?

- Yeah it's wrong!. Like you said, emo is a music genre, not a lifestyle!. (I'm not saying cutting is a lifestyle, but I cant think of another word that would make sense)!.

As previously stated, attention seeking plays a massive part!. On a broad spectrum, I *generally* think it has al ot to do with *MOST* music of the genre!. Take metal for example!.!.!. perceived as tough as, concrete eaters who wear denim and ride motorbikes!. Metal is angry!. Emo/Scene, however, is perceived as wussy, complaining music (at least over here)!. The voice used in a lot of Emo music doesn't help, as it is often referred to as 'sooky'!.
I think the other part is for sure, the way Emo/Scene people come across as looking for attention, and Myspace and Facebook have help to propagate that!.
This image will not change, so long as the media and the internet continue the current trends!.!.!.!. and Emo's are not the first!. Gothic culture has been taking hits like this for years!. If anything, Emo's have made Goths seem tougher!. Score one for the goths!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't like it either!. It's very hurtful to be called an attention seeker and emo!. It's because people just think that emo's cut themselves because of all the myspace-y youtube-ish things they do and the pictures and videos they put up!. It's because emos and scene kids have always been the ones to ***** and cry about it and make a big attention-seeking deal about it because they think it's 'cool'!. Umm, it's hard to say, because alot of people who cut and ect ARE looking for attention, kind of like girls who sleep with alot of guys, they want male attention, because something is missing in their life!.
Although a way to tel the difference between emo's (people who want attention) and actual problematic people are, do they hide their problems or expose them to the world!. I know when I use to cut my wrists, I WOULD NEVER show anyone!. I didn't want the attention, I cut my wrists for a certain reason (I couldn't deal with the mental pain I was having)!.

well preppy boys in my class call me preppy because over the weeekend i cut myself with glass intentionally and they call me emo i hate it i am punk!!! not emo but they wont get it throught there thick preppy skulls! it is hurtful when i walk by they say hey emo girl!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I hate being thought of as an "emo!." Nobody knows I do what I do, but if they found out, I would immediately be labeled an emo, and I'm not that at all!. Its stupid I don't do it for attention and I try to hide it, not flaunt it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No society does not label them as cutters, they do!.
They are the ones that self harm and show their friends the next day, this is for attention and not because they need release
They are the ones that write poems about dying and wanting to die
Now if your talknig about only the ones that dress like that, well thats because those people are associated with the hardcore emo clique who do cut mostly for attention
Now those who cut and not for attention are often labeld emo because those stupid kids who call them that dont understand emotional problems so therefore cannot related or be of any help!.
