Question: I have depression and social anxiety what do I do!?
I have been to a councellor I had 3 sessions with him but today he said he didn't think it was working and that he didn't think he could help!.

I dont know what to do now :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

Believe you me its not that the counselling was not working, it was the counsellor!. He packed up after 3 sessions!? Was he referred by your GP!? If not then I would go to my GP and ask him to refer one and with medication too then they will help you with your problems, you might not even need meds!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's what I have!. What you want to do is get educated on anxiety and depression by reading spiritual books and if you find it helpful going to a therapist!. Read spiritual books because they best explain why your anxious and depressed!. My favorite author is Eckhart Tolle!. Going to a therapist may help but you don't have to do it!. If money is an issue, some therapist only charge $40 a session!. If you ever want someone to talk to, you can im or email me if you want!. Remember "to recognize one's own insanity is the arising of sanity!." In other words are you your thoughts "insanity" or the consciousness behind it "the arising sanity!."Www@Answer-Health@Com

It was wrong of your councellor to simply send you away!. It's actually shocked me!. He should have helped you - it is his job after all!. Councelling is very good - I am currently seeing a councellor for depression and anxiety, and he is very good - you just had bad luck!. Please commit yourself to finding a good councellor, one which will have time for you!. Saying he didn't think he could help you could have made you feel like you are a lost cause, but that isn't true!. You are just as important as anyone else who goes to see him/her!.
Talk to a family member - I spoke to my dad before I spoke to a councellor!. It got all the bad feelings and depression off my chest first, and then I simply went in to see the councellor, and it was less painful when speaking to them, as I had already been through it with my dad!. I was worried I would cry, but I didn't!.
I know how you feel, but you must seek help!. The depression will only get worse if you don't!. And this time, don't let someone make you feel the way this other guy did!.

Negative emotions (like sadness, stress, anger, etc!.) causes your Serotonin production to be low; when your Serotonin level is low, you are more prone to getting Anxiety, Panic Attacks, Depression, etc!.

Medication like Antidepressants (SSRI - Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor) helps to boost Serotonin level!.
But there are natural ways to do it without medication!. There's this strange herb called "St John's Wort" - it is said to be more effective than Prozac!. No, it is not for mild depression only and ignore those sayings!. In fact, it does help anxiety and panic-attacks as St John's Wort works like prozac!. Hi, I too have depression and social anxiety and i am shocked b what your therapist said!. I have been told that in the past and it does not help you gain confidence!. Are you seeing him privately or through the NHS!? I would go back to your doctor and ask him/her what you can do next!.
I was referred to a mental health nurse who i see weekly and i am starting therapy shortly!. I have improved a lot just by seeing my nurse!. I also recommend www!.moodgym!.org but that is mainly for low self esteem but would help you build up confidence!. Set yourself little goals to reach like going for a short walk by your house then going to the shop, things that sound easy for some people but are a killer for people with social anxiety!. Also look for a book called overcoming social anxiety and shyness!. This book will explain what you are dealing with and there is a step by step recovery programme at the back to help you overcome your fears!. Counselling is about the only way to deal with this , To get to the root of the problem so you can then try to do something about it yourself , Sounds like your counsellor is giving up too easily !. Perhaps another counsellor might be more successful!. You have to put something into it as well !. A determination to overcome the problem Drugs are not the answer at allWww@Answer-Health@Com

Take it one step at a time!. If you have sibling(s) and/or one good friend go out with them for a drink and a chat!. Very slowly widen that social circle never making the next step uncomfortable!.
Know that most people get depressed at some time and sometimes you have to plough through it and sometimes you have to seek the bright spots in the spectrum and work on them!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I suffer from depression and i emailed samartians who really did help a lot!. Your best bet is to talk to someone you know who will not judge and you!. Also try to occupy your mind with things, like gaming!. It may help, but then it depends why you are depressed!. Don't panic!. I went through 4 therapists before I found one that I could work with!. Go back to your family doctor for another referral!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
