Is the medication Concerta causing my 6 year olds odd behavior?!

Question: Is the medication Concerta causing my 6 year olds odd behavior!?
The doctor prescribed my son 36mg of Concerta, a ADHD medication!. My son was on this same dosage and medication about a year ago, and everything went smoothly, the only side effect that he had was weight loss!. He was just put back on the same milligrams that he was on before and I gave him his first pill this morning, but now he has been obsessively licking his lips, and sniffing like he has a runny nose!. It's to the point where I am worried about him getting a nosebleed!. I was just wondering if anyone else who has children on this medication has had these types of things happen!. I wouldn't worry too much just yet!. I have ADHD and have been taking stimulant medications of various brands for 7 years ( since I was 8)

If you've just given him his first one today, it probably isn't something to be concerned about just yet!. Wait and see what happens!. Did he like taking his meds before, and did he want to go back on them this time!? If he didn't he might be either
a) trying to get you to think that theres something wrong so he can go off them again
or b) you noticed and told him about it so he's doing it to see what happens

It could be completely coincidental!.

If it is a side effect of the medication, It should probably go away after a while, if it doesn't then of course, you should speak to the GP or Proffessional that prescribes his meds!.

These medications are not " basically Speed"

Whilst some proffessionals maintain that dietary changes can benefit children suffering from ADHD, it is widely disputed as to whether this benefit is real or even worth the change, as the diet regimes are very restrictive and hard to enforce!. Indeed, by the very nature of ADHD, trying to introduce something which requires constant attention to detail and control of the child can be highly unsucessful!.

I have a very useful list on the diets used for controlling ADHD in children along with advice and resources from an expert in the field if you are interested!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Could be!. From what I understand, the dosage is supposed to be started very low and slowly increased!.

Concerta is basicaly Speed, so yah, it can have interesting side effects!.

I'm not saying ADHD medications are bad!.!.!.it's just that not everyone with ADHD needs to be on these medications!.

You might be interested in other ways to control symptoms of ADHD!. For example, resent studies have concluded that certain dietary changes can be just as effective as medications!. I'm sorry I don't know the details on that, but I'm sure if you Googled it, you could find it!.

EDIT: To the person below me!.!.!.How is an Amphetamine (sp!?) not basicaly speed!?Www@Answer-Health@Com
