What if i don't agree with my diagnoses?!

Question: What if i don't agree with my diagnoses!?
my p-doc thinks i'm schizoaffective or bipolar but i disagree!. i feel like i am being treated now for just a personality disorder even though i am pretty much done with the mood swings i used to have and being sad, although i suppose i could have one depending on certain situations that might arise!. maybe i am just overly-emotional sometimes!. i am stuck being a psych patient now for life i think, besides that i am in an apartment program which provides housing for "mentally ill"!. i dont feel mentally ill even though i see a psychiatrist every couple months and take psych meds and i used to do therapy but i told my psychiatrist i think its stupid and i dont need it anymore!. even my income is based on the assumption that i am "mentally ill"!. what if i just stopped seeing my p-doc and everything!? i would probably get kicked out of the program, but then i dont want to move back in with my father because i like living by myself, and the job situation sucks around here, plus that my social skills are very weak and i have no experience relating to others in a work environment which would stress me out if there was too many people--i cant stand a lot of noise and commotion, i would get headaches and i suffer from migraines!. my therapist used to think i was asperger but im not, but i still suck and i cant even get a degree in college because im too slow!. i might have a learning disability which im currently getting tested for!. is there anyone else that feels like they are just getting treated for a personality disorder and they dont feel "mentally ill" but they cant do anything with their life because of an inherent inhibition or motivation or ability!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm not trying to be mean, but the mentally retarded never think that they are retarded, the insane never think they are insane, and they'll be the first to insist on that!. I can understand and empathize with your situation, if you are truly unhappy with your current psych Dr!., request to see another, although honestly when he or she reads the assessment papers they will probably concur with the current diagnosis!. Chances are you are at a high functioning level!. But psychiatrists don't just pull these things out of thin air, you even admit that you aren't ready to deal with allot of people and the fact that you have limited social skills!. So be honest with yourself and stay with the help you need!.!.!. eventually things could change for the better, but nothing happens overnight !.!.!. so hang in there and give yourself a chance to go along with the programs that have been provided for you!. Best of luck!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think you need to see a different doctor and get a second opinion!. Those doctors see so many people, that at some point, they tend to generalize people and don't put as much thought and time into their diagnoses!. However, you may also not have a good enough understanding of your diagnoses!. If you don't want to try another doctor, try being very clear with your doctor and explain exactly why you think he/she is wrong!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

If I thought you were slow, I wouldn't say this!.!.!. you sound completely competent to me!. You obviously have a good perception of grammar or I'd be pissed off by the time I got to the middle!. Do I think you should stop the meds!? Absolutely not!. Crazy stuff can happen when tweaking that stuff and you want someone to "watch" you while you are transitioning!. I would recommend looking for a doctor that is very experienced with natural healing!. He/She would probably be most open to decreasing amounts if that's what you wanted to do!. I'd would advise you to be open to feeling froggy and go into a situation voluntarily that you can easily and quickly remove yourself from that would typically be hectic for you!. You'd probably find that it's the feeling that you HAVE to be in the uncomfortable situation that makes you feel so out-of-control!. You sound pretty sane to me!. I think you should take advantage of getting assistance if being alone makes you more comfortable!. You obviously know that college edu is an important piece of success!. I would be happy to talk to you more and see if I can help with the education deal!. It's kind of my thing!. carla_b_clarke@yahoo!.com!. As for your disagreement!.!.!. Diagnoses shouldn't just be trusted because a doc says so, in my opinion!. They are wrong too many times and if you completely disagree, then I think you should dig into it a little more!. I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Is there any particular reason they ruled out Asperger's!? Because it does sound a lot like Asperger's to me!.

If you can't make it on your own without the supports, take advantage of the supports!. I'm in the opposite situation - I'd like some supports, but I'm not getting any!.

I don't see how being slow is stopping you from getting a degree!. It doesn't matter if it takes you longer, you can still get there!. I'm in my 3rd year right now, with at least 3 more years to go since changing my major from biology to psychology!. There's no minimum number of classes you -have- to take; even if you just take on class at a time, you'll eventually get there!. You'd probably qualify for some accommodations in school too, such as extended deadlines or longer test-taking times!. It doesn't hurt to look into it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my psych diagnosed me said i had severe depression, mild anxiety and borderline severe stress!. well, the severe depression freaked my doctor out, so he decided to sign a little certificate saying i was unfit for work and study!. centrelink, these nice folks that work for the government usually like me to look for work and they pay me because i'm unemployed, but now i don't have to look for work!. and i only agreed to it because i don't think i'd ever be able to get a job in my town!. i still go to my classes despite the medical certificate!. it made me feel awful that i was unfit for work!.
my recent psych thought the diagnosis was a bit much and over the months hasn't been able to see any signs of severe depression in me!. so she's helping me get over social anxiety!.
i think i do have asperger's though!. i'll have to ask my psych about that!.

i would say get a second opinion, but if you don't want to get kicked out of the program then you are pretty stuck!. if i were you i'd just say your doctor was wrong!. move back in even though you hate it!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

In the past I have had diagnoses that i did not agree with!. You don't have to agree with it, and if it bothers you enough, you can certainly switch doctors!. I switched doctors and found someone whom I believe gave me the correct diagnosis and followed my treatment wishes!. This solution may work for you, depending on how your housing program is set up!. You may find, however, that you need to make a choice, between getting what you consider is the proper treatment, and keeping your housing!. Unfortunately this is a very sad reality for many folks with mental illness!. There are advocacy groups out there who may be able to give you support and information!. These include Mind Freedom, NARPA, and the National Empowerment Center!. These groups support your rights to choose your own course of treatment, they helped me quite a bit in the past!.

Personally, I would encourage you to try therapy again, with a different therapist!. not all therapist work for every person!. It took me a few to find one that really helped!. I've been where you are, but thanks to a great therapist who works well with me, I finally feel like i'm going somewhere with my life again!. -NebWww@Answer-Health@Com
