You know you're depressed when you can't sleep more than 3 or 4 hours a day!. You would not want to go back and live your life the same way if you had the choice to!. A lot of people say that life is too short to stress out, worry, and be angry; people like us don't think it's short enough!. Or you contemplate death frequently!. Maybe you don't really have many goals and/or your interests are dwindling!. Everyone around you looks unappealing and annoying!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would say you are very depressed!. See your Dr who can help you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It sounds hormonal!. Even if you aren't pregnant, depending on your age your body's chemistry can have this kind of effect on your emotional outlook!.
If it's not a hormonal condition, it sounds more like bi-polar disorder than depression!.
What you're describing is somewhat normal as far as feeling like not doing anything periodically or having a snippy attitude!. It shouldn't be a constant ongoing condition though!. You would probably benefit from a visit to the doctor!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Did you happen to read the Best of Answers earlier on the main page of Yahoo Answers!? It was a question on depression and low self-esteem and had an excellent answer!. I grabbed the link for you here: http://answers!.yahoo!.com/question/index;!.!.!.

We all go through periods of depression!. And yes, even to curl up into a ball and lay and cry is okay!. I do it too!. But when I find myself going beyond that where I'm not doing a single thing all day long, then I try to take some form of action that I feel will be helpful to me!.

For me personally, when I get into downward mood where I see no light at the end of the tunnel, I will chop-up what I need to do for the day into smaller projects and work on them project-by-project and accomplish them, check them off, and feel better about myself!.

I'm not sure why, but in taking what I need to get done and turning them into smaller projects, or smaller goals, it works out better for me during times of emotional crisis!.

For example, if I'm really down, I will think of just a few things that I will do my best to accomplish for that day!. And, I find it easier to deal with smaller projects and to accomplish them rather then doing big projects that I often fail miserably at when I'm so stressed!.

Also, when I'm so stressed that I notice my mouth is speaking another language of bad words, I just stop everything and go for a bike ride or walk!. Something around 30 minutes, enough to make my heart pump fast and I sweat a little!. I am totally amazed at how differently I see things after a short work out!. Much of my stress and depression is gone and I can think more clearly!.

As someone else said here, take care of your body!. Especially your diet!. Eat and drink more good things over those things not really good for you!. Get plenty of sleep too as I always found the next day can offer hope and I take advantage of that hope, even if it lasts me only a few hours!.

Lastly, try talking with someone!. Someone who will listen!. Everyone has an opinion, but it's nice when someone can actually listen to you and after it's all said and done, can be helpful rather then judgmental!.

What you describe could be due to hormones and may pass!. Doing things like eating a balanced diet including things that release energy slowly and excercising can help to balance out your mood!.

I think the time to seek medical help for any mental health problems is when they effect your ability to function daily!.

Why not enquire about seeing your school counsellor if you have one!? You may find talking to someone really helps and helps you to sort out your feelings and figure out what causes you to feel the way you do!.

People with depression often experience extreme sadness and hopelessness!. This goes on for some time!. We may lose or gain weight, lack energy, motivation and concentration!. Often we suffer from low self-esteem and find it hard to sleep!.

We give up on stuff we used to like doing: going out, seeing mates, whatever!. We may drink more alcohol than is good for us, or even mess about with drugs!. Nothing seems to make us cheerful anymore!. Like a black cloud over our heads: it just won't go away!.

There are lots of ways to get better if you are depressed!.

Talk to someone you trust!. It's best to speak to your family if you can!. Eat right: Eat balanced!. Eat fresh!. And most importantly - eat green!. It is good for beatineveryoneon!.
Exercise: studies show regular exercise has the same impact as some antidepressant medication!. And no drug gives you a cute butt into the bargain!.
Quit alcohol, drugs and cigarettes (if you do that): detox the mind!.
Most importantly, see your GP who'll have lots of advice!. They might also recommend you see a counsellor or therapist!. These experts help us figure out what's gone wrong!. And how to put things right!.
Being depressed isn't your fault!. And getting help doesn't make you a weak person!. It just means you want to get your life back on track - sooner rather than later!.
