Everyone's mood level goes up and down, but bipolar people's mood levels have higher "peaks" and lower "valleys"!. Another way to describe it is that stimulants tend to "amplify" their emotions (in both a positive way and a negative way)!. One way to describe a bipolar's emotions is that their emotions "can flip like a light switch" (both up and down)!.

How one treats a mood disorder depends on the severity of his/her case!. If he/she is exhibiting destructive or self-destructive behavior (ex: suicidal thoughts), it's best he/she seek professional treatment (psychiatrist, counselor, or social worker)!. In addition, if his mood swings are dramatically affecting his everyday life, he probably should seek professional treatment as well!. Unfortunately, you will not know if your boyfriend is bipolar or just has really bad mood swings, unless he gets a full psych analysis from a doctor!.

Here are some suggestions on what you can do:

1!. Carefully monitor his behavior!. When does he become sad and aggressive and what causes it!. Majority of the time, bipolar people do not know they are exhibiting such dramatic mood swings!. It was my friends who help me recognize and realize I was displaying such behavior!.

2!. Support and understanding!. It's a scary realization when one realizes he/she has any health problem!.!.!.especially a mental health problem!. Most of the time, all we need to know that it's okay and that it can be treated!. If he does have a mental health issue, you need make him realize that he does have a choice and opportunity that have it treated!. There are a lot of people out there who can help him!.

3!. Talk to him!. In my opinion, most of the time, we just need someone to talk to!.!.!.!.someone to change our perspectives on things, and just help us stay grounded!.

In the end, all you can do is help him recognize that he has a problem and that he can seek treatment (I know he does not have health insurance, but I'm sure there are still plenty of doctors, counselors, and support groups who can help him)!. But it's his choice and responsibility (not yours) to seek treatment for his own mental disorder!.

And I just want you to know, it is possible to carry on loving and caring relationship with someone who is bipolar (lots of people do it)!. I am bipolar (I am on medication and I go to therapy once a week) and my girlfriend is not!. We've been dating for almost eleven months and we could not be happier!.

Good luck to you and your boyfriend

If you think he will agree to receive help then go to www!.truehope!.com They provide supplements for people who suffer from bi-polar!. { It is my understanding that these supplements were created by a Doctor who has family members who are bi-polar} I have seen amazing results of people who I know are taking truehope supplements!. The company is wonderful they can track his progress and also have people that he can talk to when needed!. And they do offer financial assistance!. The most important thing is to encourage him to get help!. A lot of times someone who has a mental illness does not think that they have a problem!. The longer they go without help and treatment the worse it becomes!. For his own health and your happiness I hope that he receives the help he needs!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Look in the phone book, call the nearest hospital to learn what agency in your area can handle this!. Most counties have a mental health agency or "behavioral" agency that diagnosis and treats without charge!. They are usually state funded (at least in part) and may be listed under state agencies!. Also, state can determine if he is eligible for medical care under Medicaid program!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Makes it difficult specially if he does not have any insurance!. Therapy in particular is expensive!. You may want to cover him with your insurance if you have one as a partner!. I'm not sure where you're from but some states like California, allows health insurances to cover partnerships!. Medications are important to manage bipolar disorders!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

be patient, and realize he has needs that no one can really understand!.!.!.don't get frustrated and try to make him feel like he has someone to help him cope!. try taking him off of any fructose syrups or any other artificial chemicals that can mess with your body (it really helps my aunt does it with her ADD foster kids and they don't even need medicine anymore)

but most importantly, don't make him feel like you are treating him "special"!. make sure that he knows he has a problem otherwise in the future if he does get medication then he will not take them!.

good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
