What happens if you take anti- depressants, and are not depressed. ?!

Question: What happens if you take anti- depressants, and are not depressed!. !?
Answers:
Although I like the first answer ("They're working!"), I think what you are asking is what will happen to you if you take anti-depressants even though you have not been diagnosed with depression!.

The answer is, it depends on what kind of anti-depressants we're talking about!. With most of the modern class of SSRI's (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors), nothing would happen to you!. The worst would be either one of the side-effects (and they can happen to people who ARE depressed and are taking their SSRI as prescribed) or your body's own cycle of production and use of serotonin could be affected, so that when you stop taking them, you could go into kind of a "funk" until your body's natural production ramps up again and your body chemistry balances itself out!.

With some of the older anti-depressants, some of them are also anti-psychotics and/or tranquilizers and they have a lot more negative side effects than the SSRI's!. Some of them cause birth defects, some of them cause seizures when mixed with other types of meds, some of them are addictive, and so on!. They are now kind of the drug of last resort because their side effects are so difficult to manage and the new SSRI's are so much better!.

The bottom line: don't take any medication that has not been prescribed specifically for you, for the condition you currently have!.

Hope this helps!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your question needs clarification!. As far as I know, if an undepressed happen to take anti-depressants he/she must suffer like a drug addict!. He/she must stop taking them if not he/she must go under torture at least for one year!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

if you werent depressed before you may well be after a course of SSRIs they've sent me crazy + suicidal each time, and i've tried 3 different onesWww@Answer-Health@Com

Nothing!.

SSRI's can be prescribed for non depressed males with premature ejaculation probs!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That would tend to indicate that the anti-depressants are working!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
