But to answer your question, these drugs, as well as many other factors/events/actions affect the vision portion of your brain!. They react with active sites on the cells that make up the image processing portion of your brain!. Most hallucinogens work like this!.
There are, however, a few which initiate an altered state of mind, so the mind is creating these visions as a way to interpret the world around you!.
