Having a hard time dealing with this diagnosis is understandable!. Some people, unfortunately, tend to see people with mental illness as different than others!. Mental illness is in many ways similar to a physical illness!. Diabetes is a problem with insulin; bipolar disorder is a problem with neurotransmitters and brain chemicals!. It is just shown in a different way: with psychologically based symptoms and psychotic features rather than with an obvious physical malfunction!.

Also, it is important for you to remember that "normal" is relative!. Normal is different in every society and every culture!. Here, in the US, normal interactions would be totally out of place in China (or vice versa)!. This makes a difference as well!. They way you are perceived in your area will differ if you are in another area--positively or negatively!.

I heard a speaker who calls himself "Bipolar Boy!." He is a middle aged man who has struggled with bipolar disorder his whole life!. He talks of his struggles and successes with the illness and is very inspirational!. For instance, he tells his audience about he statistics of mental illness!. Did you know that ONE in FIVE people have a mental illness!? He answers ALL emails people send to him!. You should look up his site for support and inspiration!. His is an awesome person!. (He also has a list of famous people with bipolar disorder!. Very interesting!.)

Your mental illness is not you, you are an individual with a mental illness!. You have the power to control your decisions and reactions to others!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am Bipolar too and I did not find out until I was 37 and the doctor told me she felt that I had it since I was a teenager!.It was hard to accept at first until I realized I had all these terrible symptoms and didn't know what was causing them!. After I took a long ,hard look at myself I realized that ,now, I knew what was wrong and I could start dealing with it!.It had a name and now I could try to '"fix"me!.You first have to realize that it is not your fault, it is a chemical imbalance in your brain,it runs in families and it doesn't mean your not normal ,you are just a person that may need to adjust to life differently than others!.You are very young and I am sure it is hard for you and I hope you are getting counseling and seeing a psychiatrist!.Sometimes you may need medications and it may take some med changes before they find the right ones but don't give up!.If it is any consolation mental illness is becoming more acceptable in the world!.You don't have to walk around with a sign saying "I am mentally ill" just take it one day at a time and know there is help out there for you!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

U R 14!. All 14 year olds go through goofy stuff!. If U really R bipolar, just take the medicine and go on living!. Do 14 year old stuff, play sports, eye ball the girls, eat, do crafts, get a pet, go on the computer!. After your body gets used to the meds, they might reduce it or keep you on a maintenance dose!. The problem is, many kids don't want to take stuff and try to do without it and act crrrrrrrazy!!! Young men do this and end up in jail, so don't try to change the dose without the help of your family and the doctor!. You can have a full life being bipolar, it doesn't affect your intelligence!. You can get a good job and do anything else!. Just , you have to treat it like a chronic illness same as diabetes or asthma!. Because it is a chronic illness!.

And it is a medical problem, it gets mental if you go off the meds without supervision!! Did this help!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

don't worry!.!.!. i feel exactly the same way!. i was diagnosed with OCD and torrets (not where i randomly yell out words, but where i have facial ticks) when i was like 11!. i'm now 15 and i still get so mad that without my meds i'm not normal!. no matter what i do, i will never be able to change!. it just gets so hard to live with myself!. i have rituals that i can't help doing, and i'm never happy with myself since i want everything to be perfect!. so just remember that ur not alone!. and also, overtime u will think about it less and less!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, I had a hard time dealing with my major depressive disorder and bipolar II!. The older I get and the more people I meet as long as I take my meds if I don't tell people they don't know I have a psychiatric disorder!. I believe everyone has their quirks some of us just have a harder time dealing with them!. Hang in there and try to give yourself some slack!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

*raises hand* I'm 16 and I've gotten used to it!. Sometimes I do feel like I can never escape it, though!. I feel like I'm stuck with the mistakes I've made under the influence of depression!. but that's just how it is!. My advice to you is to take it one day at a time!. if you have meds, take them (don't neglect them!! they're only to help you) and!.!.!.basically try to enjoy (yeah right) life as a teen!. I'm still trying, but I can say that it gets a little better every time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I wouldn't say I've had an exceptionally difficult time accepting it, but it is hard to realize that it is 'the way you are' or 'built into your system' rather than just a phase or something you are going through!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't mean to offend anyone!.!.!. but it seems to me that there are way too many young people being diagnosed with these mental illnesses!. I have worked with "at risk" teens for about 7 months now and at least 50% are being treated and medicated for mental illnesses!. Some of them use it as an excuse for their behavior!. I almost wonder if accepting their mental illness makes them more mentally ill!. I really think these are just normal kids going through normal emotional teen stuff!. Now if your emotions are still the same when you're 30!.!.!. then maybe you do have issues!.

Also I am not in anyway saying that you are faking!.!.!. because I don't know you!.!.!. but I do know that mental illnesses are real!. They run in my family!.!.!. I have an aunt who was schizophrenic who would chase us w butcher knives and throw hot irons at us if we did the slightest thing that annoyed her ex: crossing our legs, making noise, etc!. I myself have a lot of anxiety and get depressed very easily!.!.!. but I take B complex and it helps!.!.!.!. I'm scared to take other stuff like zanex because I don't want to get addicted!. My mom and dad were heroin addicts!. So yeah, life sucks and mental illnesses are real!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
