Answers:
Depression and stress will not cause you to become stupid, it can just cause you to feel that way!. When people are depressed it can be very difficult to concentrate and to focus on what it going on!. Sometimes when you combine this with stress (as if depression isn't stressful enough) your mind is on super overload!. It makes a lot of sense in the context of things that it would be difficult to remember things, even those things that we normally do well, like spelling!. It feels like your brain is deteriorating because you are used to being able to function at a certain level and the depression and stress are throwing everything off!. Trust me though your brain is not deteriorating and you are mot becoming stupid!. Depression can affect every aspect of a persons life!. No area of a persons life is immune from the symptoms of depression!. If treated properly depression can be very manageable and some people fully recover without ever having another episode!. Once the depression has lifted and the stress has decreased you will find that your mind is still intact and you are back to being able to do the things you were able to do before you became depressed!. I can relate to how you are feeling but know you will be ok!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

At times yes!.!.!.

Speaking from personal experience, depression, and some medications, make you forget names, words etc!.!.!. If I'm in a depressed state, and I go out, and I'm standing/sitting next to someone, I literally cannot think of a single thing to say! Or if I say something, I don't really make much sense!.

Xanax helps me in that department, or talking about something that might be bothering me, or sticking close with my partner or a good friend for most of the night!.

Maybe talking to someone, a friend or a therapist, and even your doctor about anti-depressants and/or some kind of other medication, or even some relaxation exercises like deep breathing, etc!.!. (they really do help!)

But yes, extreme stress does funny things to the mind!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The short answer is "yes," but it's not quite that simple!.

There could be multiple causes involved!. Depression slows your response time, and makes your body and mind less reactive!. A depressed person will score lower on an IQ test than they would when not depressed!.

But the cognitive stress from repeated episodes of illness can also take its toll!. Extreme stress can also cause the mind to "go into hiding," so to speak!.

Relief from the depression will most likely relieve your cognitive symptoms as well!.

Put simply, your mind is tired!. It's been fighting hard with an illness that by definition makes cognitive function more difficult!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The very way you have phrased the question is in the manner of a depressed person!. All these feelings are symptoms, but they are only feelings!. Because you are obviously so depressed they sometimes become self-fulfilling prophesies ("I can't do this because I am not good enough" - so you don't do it)!.
It isn't because you can't!. And it isn't because you are stupid!. Depression doesn't change IQ!. It hits your self esteem!. It is the thing making you feel isolated and pulling back from relationships!. You have the capacity to be the person you always were!. There are many treatment options, including opening up to a therapist about what is stressing you and possibly advice on medication!. Millions of us learn to live with depression!. You can't see depression, but that doesn't make it less of a legitimate and treatable disease than say, migraine or diabetes!. Find help and face the beast - don't worry, having depression doesn't make you less of a person - in fact overcoming it can make you much more of a person than you ever thought you could be!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not permanently stupid, but if your mind is preoccupied with enough stuff, then it won't be as effective in processing other stuff!. If you're not addressing your depression and stress, you need to address it through therapy, exercise, diet, etc!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. Your not stupid!. It sounds like your depression is making you doubt yourself which is causing low self esteem!. Try doing something that 'floats your boat'!. Don't worry about what others are doing, Focus on yourself!. Music, physical activity, or a cold drink in a hot bath always helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have taken many health courses and it has been proven that temporary damage to your brain cells and abundance of certain chemicals inside of your brain can be a result of stress!. Fortunately, on most cases these symptoms of "stupidness" go away with time!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
