What is a good add on to Lamictal (200mg) and Wellbutrin (300mg)?!
Question: What is a good add on to Lamictal (200mg) and Wellbutrin (300mg)!?
I have Bipolar 2 , rapid cycling with very mild hypomania!. I suffer from severe depression with occasional self harm!. I also have paranoid delusions (based on real events) but blown out of proportion in my mind accompanied by racing thoughts and nightmares, but no hallucinations!.
The wellbutrin (300mg) gives me more energy( enough to get out of bed and bathe) -- but doesn't touch the depression etc!.!.
The Lamictal (200mg) has helped me focus, be more alert, has helped me think more clearly, and keeps me out of bed all day with no more napping/sleeping 14 hours a day!. -- This drug has helped me SOOO much!. I love it!. Before I had NO energy to do anything!. My chronic fatigue is completely gone!. And I'm now able to speak clearly; before I had a hard time completing full sentences due to spacing out and being distracted all the time!. I originally asked for Adderal to help with focusing and more energy, -- but Doc wanted me to try Lamictal first and he was 100% right-on!.
Unfortunately, the Wellbutrin and Lamictal is not stopping my paranoid delusions and racing thoughts, and I am still cycling from mild mania to depression, albeit not as bad as before!.
I think I need an add on, maybe an anti-psychotic to stop the paranoid delusion/racing thoughts!. Any recommendations of add ons that have helped you!.
FYI, SSRI's do not work for me, they make me more depressed and escalate my self harm and make me suicidal!. The last time I took an SSRI (Lexepro) I attempted suicide!.

I would ask about something slightly sedating, like Seroquel or some of the old-school typical antipsychotics!. Something activating like Abilify or Geodon might send you into mania-land!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

An atypical antipsychotic is usually added as an adjunct therapy when lithium cannot be taken, or other treatments aren't working completely!. Most antidepressants are contraindicated for people that have bipolar and depression as it can induce mania, accelerate cycling, and increases suicidal thoughts, as you have seen!. So, wellbutrin is a good choice as it doesn't have the same problems as other antidepressants and bipolar depression/mania!. Although adding another medication to your daily routine can also mean increased chances of side effects which are undesirable, an antipsychotic may be useful in helping with the depression, stabilizing mood, and decreasing acute mania!. If you haven't spoken to your psychiatrist about adding an atypical, then it may be good advice to do so!.
