Do I have to release that I am bipolar to any potential employer or organization!

Question: Do I have to release that I am bipolar to any potential employer or organization I plan on joining!?
I'm in the process of joining the rescue squad(I just have to get a physical, Fingerprints and a drug test) And i'm also Bipolar but have been doing great and staying on medicine!. I haven't been affected ( go through Highs or Lows) in over a year!. I'm afraid that if the rescue squad finds out that i have a mental illness they are not going to let me join!. Do I legally ( IN NJ) have to release to them that I am bipolar!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Maybe you should- in that kind of job, people are depending on you, and if for some reason (I don't know whether you are bipolar I or II) you had an episode or a problem, people wouldn't freak out!. You'd be surprised how accomodating some employers can be!. There might even be some kind of anti-discrimination provision!. Why don't you call another rescue squad anonymously and ask!?

(And if they find out later, they might be upset that you weren't upfront with them from the start!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Honestly, ask lawyer!. They would have that info on hand if it's illegal not to!. Plus you'll get a better answer than you would from here I think!. And most medical information is legally protected by laws that premit the extent of infomation that can be legally released!. So even if you were hospitalized, that means they can ask, but you don't havve to be giving up information that you don't want to< a legal right you have>

But physical no need, finger print no need, drug test no real need unless your on drugs then ask your main doc how that would show up durring a screen(they ussualy look for TCH and that sort of such) !. But if it says are you mentaly fit to handle all condiitions of stress and legaly in a safe mind at the time you aply then you should be alright!. But like I said don't look here for the legal truth!Www@Answer-Health@Com
