I am seeing a mental health team who have a file with my notes in, my nurse will write in there after every appointment and i was wondering if i had any right in asking to read the file or have a copy!. My nurse doesn't really give any opinion on me to my face so i wanted to know what she thought in these notes!. I am in the UK so do i have any right!? Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
yes it is your right to be able to see what they are writing about you!. Just ask to see your notes!. Bear in mind though that most of it will be written in medical language, and that some words, especially in mental health, have a different meaning in the medical world than they do in the rest of the world!. I'm not sure whether you can get a copy or not but it is your right to be able to read them!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Definitely!. You have the right to ask and your health care team has the ethical obligation to be honest with you!. Like someone pointed out, there is a fine line!. The only exception would be if the information would harm you in some way, but they can't withhold the notes from you because they believe you won't like them!. There has to be a valid reason behind it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The Data Protection Act has some exceptions to the 'Right to Know'!.

Tax information, Police records and also Health Information, if it is thought that releasing it would cause harm to the patient!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you ask you will most likely get to see them, however, someone usualy sits with you to explain things!.!.!.it can shock you if you see something you dont understand!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
