How can I prevent myself from getting Schizophrenia if my mother has it?!

Question: How can I prevent myself from getting Schizophrenia if my mother has it!?
My mom was diagnosed with Paranoid Schizophrenia when i was about 2 yrs old!. She did very strange things, and always thought people were out to get her!. She did not think anything was wrong with her after my dad tried getting her help!. My parents eventually got a divorce and my dad gained custody of me!. I have not spoken to my mom since I was 10 and I am now 18!. After seeing what happened to her and our family, I'm terrified of getting this disease!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

There really isn't anything you can do, outside of possibly avoiding heavy drug use, but you should avoid that anyway!. Even if your mom weren't schizophrenic, there would still be a chance of you getting it anyway, because that's life!. The fact that she is increases your chances, yes, but not by a whole lot!. The odds are still VERY much in your favor that you will be fine!. Like, about 95%!. My father's mother was schizo-affective, bipolar type (basically schizophrenia + bipolar!.!.!. lots of fun)!. My dad is the only sane one in my family!.

And here's something about Family Crazy - just because they turned out a certain way doesn't mean you will!. I inherited mental illness from a very long line of it in my family, but that doesn't seal my fate!. Some crazy people turn out bad - Charles Manson springs to mind!. But plenty don't!. Winston Churchill suffered from a type of bipolarity!. John Nash was an unmedicated schizophrenic, and he taught in a university and won the Nobel Prize (he also had a lovely family life)!. Hugh Laurie, who plays House, suffers from depression!. His best friend in the business is Stephen Fry (you may have seen him in V for Vendetta) and he is bipolar!.

But here's one thing I can tell you for sure!. Worrying about it is not going to do you any good!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not something you can prevent, and it's not even certain if it's hereditary!.

Don't worry yourself about it!. Besides, there are now much better treatments available than when your mom was first diagnosed and it is possible to live a normal life - so long as you want to get help and stick with the treatment program and medication!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I don't think you can prevent this!. Its very sad what happens!.

Good Luck and take careWww@Answer-Health@Com
